Indy Oakenfold - Cattaneo Review
Well this night was terrible.
We got there, and since I'm only 20, couldn't get in. The end.
Thanks for changing the age without telling anyone. It definately said 18+, 21 to drink on the flyer before.
The bouncer said we could get a refund on groovetickets, but the fine print definately says no refunds unless the event is cancelled.
Ouch man...ouch.
are there any age restrictions printed on the tickets?
I think there were kind of a lot of under 21 MWTA's heading to this...
Topher? Ben? Did you guys get in?
Anxiously awaiting reviews...
Sorry to hear you got shot down CD...
damn man... that seriously sucks.
yea i got in... i am of legal age you know ...
anyway, the place was absolutely packed and the vibe was great.
seth & mack were great. great mixing, great tracks (thanks for dropping 34k seth
.
liquid todd wasn't great... dropped some played out tracks and mixing was not on for almost the entire set.
hernan was absolutely incredible. played some amazing tracks and mixed flawlessly. i enjoyed his entire set.
oakey... what can i say. his mixing was shoddy at best, but played great tracks new&old... the crowd loved him, and even though all the people i came with were cringing during some of his weaker transitions, i can't say that i didn't enjoy it overall.
overall it was a very enjoyable evening minus some of the douchebags around us (those who were there know what i'm talking about). this type of event is great for the indy scene, hopefully everything builds on this.
it was nice to meet some new people (TAs and others). hoping to see everyone again in the near future.
Being of age I had no problems either. Topher was there with his brother, and Chris was there as well so I'm not sure why they gave you shit at the door.
I didn't get to see Seth which was a big disappointment. Liquid Todd had a few technical flaws and played some lame tracks, but still managed to mix better than Cokenfold. Hernan blew the roof off the building like he always does(the whole reason why I went to the show). I had to fight my way through everyone to get his autograph, but managed to do so. Oaky dropped his first track right in the middle of Hernan's last and allowed both to play for a little bit, then proceeded to pretty much trainwreck every transition from then till the time I left. He played some good tunes, but the mixing was terrible.
Overall, I had a great time. I still can't believe we had a bill like that for a show in Indy. Seeing Hernan was a big thrill since I've been wanting to see him for a couple years now. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the Fortier show next week.
i had a blast. my 3rd TA experience. i was ichin for another time to go out and listen to some techno/trance/etc. i would have to say it was extremely hot in there and nicely packed. i felt out of place too...which goes with the stigma of the club. not saying i wouldn't go again since another one is comin in about 2 weeks.
and they didn't have me on the VIP list which i paid for. "did you print your receipt?" no i don't need to. "are you sure it was this show?" are you kiddin me? how often does oakenfold come to indy on 7/11/2005. give me a break.

nice to meet a couple new people. it was def fun meetin back up w/ topher, pat, and phreek. ARMIN roadtrip. it's awesome i didn't have to drive or ride for 5 hours to get to the concert. i can't really critique on mixin as i don't know much on it but i liked some of the tracks. i was exhausted by the time Oakenfold got on the set. let's get a TA meet up organized next time prior to the concert.
and then seein a girl i knew from my hs. cot damn she's so hot. def a plus to see she's into that music.

I wasn't at all surprised by Oaky's mixing. I figured it wasn't going to be perfect, but was kind of shocked at how blatantly obvious he was making it that he didn't give a shit. He really didn't even try, but after playing for 30 years, having a massive cult follwing, and admitting he'd rather do movies than dj, it should come as no surprise that he does that and didn't think twice.
It's neat to see the guy play since he's a living legend in EDM. It would just be nice to see him put a little more effort into it no matter how bored he is with it. Which kind of begs the question as to why he's still touring if he's so bored? I know he was never an amazing dj technically, but I also know he could beat match if he really wanted to.

Well it was nice to see so many people to come out and support the music in none other than Indianapolis last night. I was surprised. When I walked in I was shocked and couldnt believe that the scene I saw was right here in my resident city when normally I travel hours to find what usually gets me going.
I wish I couldve made it for Seth & Macks set. Disappointed I missed it. Im sure there will be a next time though.
Liquid Todd was too hard for me. My roommate enjoyed him though. He liked him the best of all 3.
Hernan was my favorite of all three. I couldnt stop dancing to what he played and honestly I wish I could have kept dancing throughout his whole set but it was so hot in there and not near enough room to dance. When I hear my music I like to be able to at least enjoy it to its fullest and I couldnt do that last night. It was literally body to body and I swear 150 degrees. But again, nice to see so many people there to support. I had never heard Hernan before but now that I have I will definitely be making a road trip to see him play. I would love to check him out again.
The best part of Oakenfold-his first track with Nick Warrens Rain (I think its called that not sure though). Im in love with that song and that was the highlight of my night when I heard it. Although I wish he would have played the whole thing. Its nice to say Ive actually seen Oakenfold now however I was not all that impressed. You can tell if a DJ is bored and could care less if he is there. Thats the vibe I got from him. His set was good though. The crowd didnt stop moving. He played some good stuff. However I couldnt really get a good look at him because #1 the DJ Booth was so damn high up all I could see was the top of his head. #2 When I did step back to get a good look all I could see was the blinding lights that were right in front of the booth the entire night. It could have been anyone up there in a wig playing a set of Oakenfolds and I wouldnt have known. I dont know call me crazy but when Im at a show, I like to see the DJ, see the DJ interact with the crowd, and get a chance to meet the DJ and get an autograph and pic. None of those happened last night. I have never seen a DJ end his set, clap at the crowd and have them chant his name, and just when you expect him to blast into his encore, he turns away and runs off stage. But like I said, its Oakenfold in Indy. We were lucky he even bothered to show up.
All in all, I could have watched an entire night of Hernan. He was enjoying himself and the crowd. You could tell. That makes a good show.
It was nice to finally meet up with all you TAs. Had lots of fun with you all!!! Hope we can all get together again soon. Possibly for Fortier???
Be sure to check back soon. I will be posting pics soon

Ha.
Jen, the track you're talking about is Unkle - Reign... not quite sure whose remix it is but its a good track nonetheless. About the DJ booth there: all they need is a spotlight on the dj and i think it would be alright, maybe they'll 'fix' it for Fortier.

A bigger club wouldn't be a bad idea either, but it's a little late for a change of venue. I felt like a sardine for a while there last night. Welcome to the underground I guess.

Now that I'm thinking about it, does anyone know the name of the track Oakenfold played that sounded like a remix of The Cult's "She Sells Sanctuary?" I hadn't ever heard that before, and was kind of pissed when he skipped to the next track in the middle of it cause I love that original and wanted to hear what the entire track sounded like.
Last night was great. I was impressed with how packed the place was and at such an early time. It was nice to meet everyone.
Seth and Mack were great as expected. They really had people moving early. Liquid Todd blew. Simple as that. Had 2 or 3 good tracks and the rest were terrible as was his mixing. Hernan rocked. Great mixing and great tracks. Oakey played good tracks and mixing was terrbile as expected. The venue was good. I didnt like how you couldnt really see the DJ because of the lights in front of the booth.
Overall, I was very impressed and pumped that this had so much success in INDY. Hopefully its just the beginning and a sign of things to come.

So... Seth...
I don't suppose your promotional company would feel like being nice and giving me a refund. I'm already bummed enough that I didn't get to see some great DJs.
