avalon closeing?

Good. i hope Crobar steals Eddie Lee if this rumor is true. Eddie Lee + Serge def two awesome openers.

that all depends...it may be spirit that turns into such shit, if the process hasn't started already. avalon was 18+ and so is spirit.

well not UNLESS another venue comes into the city that presents an alternative.

but crobar also has the rap room, which attracted alot of people @ Avalon.

I dont know if youre talking about the Prop Room or the Bar at the foot of the main floor, but neither one is a 'rap' room. They play it from time to time, but the genre's extend further than that.

they occassionaly play hip-hop in the reed room on thursday nights, but they don't do it as often because of past trouble. (btw. nice & smooth will be there this thursday)

this sucks. Even if you didn't like Avalon's crowd, they were still bringing in amazing lineups every single weekend. Just one less option.

tru but theres always cielo <3 , the sullivan room, canal room and SHELTER to bring in other djs. so its all good. i didnt mind shelter at all, u know. when dumonde and lange went there i had the illest time

there's definitely other venues that bring in solid DJs, but Avalon was pulling in some really unique names unlike a place like Crobar. What surprises me most is that every time I have been there Avalon has been packed. Numbers could not have been a real problem.

any confirmation of this???

anything is possible, esp. with the fights that occur esp. at the other parties held at avalon. then again i suppose fights can occur anywhere.

myself and some friends are scheduled to play in the Spider Club on the 22nd...I just checked with one of them now and he said that he was told Avalon is definitely closing after the 24th. This is starting to sound true.

man i hope avalons crowd stays away from spirit, cuz thats the only club i can go to right now

I read these earlier today and the people on there seem to have fairly reliable info. The part regarding the DJs who were scheduled to play after July 24 dropping Avalon from their calendars does not look good.

There is something about Avalon taking over Spirit, rather than Space, but the validity of that is a bit skeptical, just as the original Space story was.

Either way, it just means less options for everyone (both DJs and clubbers). The clubs that Alyssa listed earlier aren't that large, and won't hold the crowds that some of Avalon's lineups have been pulling. That's probably the reason that Ferry played Crobar this time rather than Avalon and will be doing his residency there after he said during WMC that he wasn't looking for a new NYC venue.
