Your All Time Favourite Mix ?
What is your all time favourite mix and why ? Specifically, how did it affect you and your your interest in dance music ?
gonna have to go with two cuz one is just too hard.
1.) Ferry Corsten mixed live @ Spundae- Show was just amazing from start to finish. I was in the slideshow, the inside cover, out on the dancefloor singing PUNK and just all around encapsulated at this show. The music played that night was off the charts and the mixing was just ridiculous.
2.) As much as I hate to say Tiesto, his live at energy 2000 set is still one of the best live sets i've heard to date. The energy and killer mixing in that set was one of the first to really turn me onto trance music and wanting to be a dj.
Mauro Picotto's Essential Mix 2000 - Wow!!!! That was amazing! First time I ever heard of Mauro. The entire mix is banging from beginning to end. This mix is responsible for getting me into Mauro.
TIESTO's Essential Mix Debut 2001 - This is what got me into Tiesto. Awesome set from beginning to end. Flawless too.
Sasha in Russia 1998. WOW... The set that got me into Sasha.
Armins 2004 In Review MegaMix ASOT 182....
How did it affect me??? I think I died, good thing I purchased life insurance.
If anyone missed it... here you go

Great sets posted.
I would say to this day my favorite mixes are tied between Tiesto's Magik 6 and Magik 7. Personally I feel as if they are one large journey, insane tracklists...great vibe in audience and the old tiesto that we knew at his best! I usually listen to them on long trips and away from home, always back to back!

1. Sasha & Digweed Live @ Delta Heavy Tour Miami 2002
Insane mixing...and great tracks.
2. John Digweed - Fabric 20
Completely converted me from a trance head to a prog head.
3. Ferry Corsten Mixed Live @ Spundae
...
Wow, this is so hard! i've heard so many good sets, it's hard to come up with just one!
I'd have to say DJ Tiesto - Magik 1: The First Flight. The first track, Sunday Club - Healing Dream, instantly converted me into REAL dance music, not that euro-dance trash that I was listening to at the time (ie: DJ Mystik
). The overall mood of the set is very dark and serious, but not sinister.
I would listen to this set over and over on a road trip that I went on last year. That mix never gets old!
1. Ferry Corsten 1999 Rosemontage rave
Hunting set....
2. Judge Jules live @ Qontact 2001(i think)
Have this EVIL ENERGY IN IT......luv it
Tisto - Energy 2000
James Zabiela - Essential Mix, 22.02.04 (I made the switch from Trance the second this ended)
Sasha & Digweed - Live at Delta Heavy Tour Miami 2002 (It's just... Damn)
Wow there are so many. I became heavily interested in the music after getting my hands on a bunch of oakie essential mixes from 2000. The ones that come to mind are live@gatecrasher, shadow lounge, the rojam in china, and especially the mix from havana, cuba.
Fav mix froma few years ago is gotta be the gtr promo mix.
Fav mixes recently are sander k live@ fokus and avb asot 200XXL <--- that mix is gangster!! Flashbacks from the past 5 years! Armin even plays gamemaster thats freakin awesome.
i feel like such a noob seeing all these sets from the 90s
my alltime favorite is easily Disc 2 of Nyana from Tiesto...got me into trance in the first place...2 tracks on there (catcher - destiny sunrise and, especially, holden & thompson - nothing [93 returning mix]) are still 2 of my favorite all time
As far as a mix CD goes, Tiesto's Magik 5, Beyond Heaven. Although now I figure Tiesto to be a cheesy, train-wrecking dj, he is actally responsible for my love in trance and the urge to become a DJ. His magik series are all good, however, there is something else with magik5. The mixing is so solid and the track selection is pretty good and yeah THERE IS NO VOCAL cheesy tracks. All time favorites usually come from the first mixes you hear and switch from whatever you listen to that mixe's style. When I first bought the magik series and listened to them, I will never turned back from EDM. As for more of recent times, I also love Sasha's AirDrawnDragger(not really mixed but whatever). It is made with computer, but it's simply beyond human capability. I will listen to these 2 cd's anytime and will enjoy them 100%.

Mixing. Flawless.
Track Selection. Perfect.
It slowly builds up in the first half hour, gets you shaking the 2nd half hour. Just when you thought it was all over, it completely face-fucks you for the last hour!

Ok my turn.
There are loads of mixes over the years, but only a few really stand out to me.
Oakie's 94 Goa mix was landmark for a variety of reasons, and it will always live in the Pantheon of greatness imo. Also worth noting are early Tiesto, Corsten, and a lot of Sasha and Digweed from the 90s, as well as Sasha@Homelands 99, but imo the greatest mix of all time is ....
Paul Oakenfold LIVE at Gatecrasher, Lotherton Hall in Leeds - 6/99
Every now and then, a mix comes along that is not only perfect, but it also happens to be released at a perfect moment when a genre is exploding in a place that is known for its insane love of music and celebration of life. The 98,99,00 time frame was the golden era of trance - a time when track automation, effect plugins, ProTools and all that were becoming affordable and so the genre was going through an evolution that was allowing a lot of young producers to make fantastic music. Oakie himself was completely tapped into this and was peaking as DJ (he was probably #1 at that time), and was in the midst of his essential mix world tour. The Gatecrasher phenomon was at its peak, and Napster had just been released, which made alot these mixes widely available on a global scale.
That's the backstory - now for the tracks themselves.
Firstly, the track selection was 100% solid. He started with Planet Perfecto featuring Grace, 'It's not over Yet', and then weaved his way through several tracks including 'Space Maneuvers' and other until finally working the crowd into a Frenzy with Picott's 'Lizard'. What made it so fucking magic was that Picotto himself was blowing up around that time, and Lizard was one of those tracks milked the audience of all its energy until that massive breakdown in the middle of the track.
He then used Jon Vesta's 'Gull', as a gateway track. It was sort of generic and anonymous which was great after Lizard's hard pounding energy, and then it set up which is imo the greatest trance track ever, in Tekknova's 'Last Trip To Paradise'. All this against the backdrop of Judge Jules yelling at the audience & delivering EM radio blurbs. After Last Trip, he immediately fires off a barage of (now) classics with Madagascar, Universal Nation, and Spiritualized, and then finally finishes the thing off with Christian Jay Bolland's 'The Prophet'. Amazing mix, and it still gets me even today. Each time I think it wont, it does.
01. Planet Perfecto feat. Grace - It's Not Over Yet '99 (Breeder's It is Now Remix)
02. Space Manoeuvres - Stage One (Tilt's Apollo 11 Mix)
03. Ambassador - The Fade (Fade Mix)
04. Mara - One (Hamel's Implant Remix)
05. Space Brothers - Forgiven (Origin Mix)
06. Mauro Picotto - Lizard
07. Jon Vesta - Gull
08. Tekknova - Last Trip To Paradise
09. Art of Trance - Madagascar (Ferry Corsten Remix)
10. Push - Universal Nation (Ferry Corsten Remix)
11. Olmec Heads - Spritualized (Astral Mix)
12. Space Brothers - Heaven Will Come (Olmec Heads Vocal Dub)
13. CJ Bolland - The Prophet
Timo Maas - Music For The Maases
BT - Movement In Still Life
DJ Tiesto - In My Memory
All of these just hit me at the perfect time in my life. The best years of trance music for me were in 2000 and 2001. These albumns helped make it happen for me.
Kiss FM 2001-11-03 Part 1 - Sasha and John Digweed at Bedrock, London
it like hearing good at work
