Drivers in T.O.

drivers in this city are insane!!

I get honked at for driving the speed limit and there is always someone riding my ass!!!

when I drive to KW to visit..what a difference coming from T.O. In KW i feel like I am the crazy one on the road!!

Honestly..I cannot afford another speeding ticket. Insurance to drive in T.O. is OUTRAGEOUS!!!! They want to charge me more for drivng a 2002 with a G licence..then when I first got my car Brand New when I didn't have my G licence. Like go screw yourself my car is 3 yrs OLD NOW and I have my G.

Don't get me wrong.. I still love Toronto.
But what can i say I like to bitch.

Everything about driving in toronto is ridiculous.

Last summer I got my car towed TWICE for the stupidest reasons.

I didn't know about the no parking from 6-8am on certain streets and looked right past the sign and only payed attention to the huge pay and display sign.
I went out to put money in the meter at 6, and no more than 20 minutes later it was gone!
Then that happened again later in the summer, however I did kick myself for letting it happen twice.

Still made me not want to drive in toronto though.

I too still love toronto but hate driving there.

They want to ride it cause it's so sweet und 'toit!! LOL

Posted by Sly_Guy on Jul-18-2005 00:06:

you'll get used to it dance2dabeat...

If you can drive in Toronto you can drive anywhere...Rule of thumb, anything under 15km over the speed limit the cops won't stop you. Unless of course it's a slow day on the speed traps, and you'll learn all the usual spots for those in a couple month's time. If you really want a lesson, I suggest going to St Clair and Lansdowne during rush hour and trying to paralell park.

I've never been honked at for going the speed limit in the right lane. If you're in the left lane, then yes, you will get honked at and you deserve to be - you should not be in the left lane unless you're passing other drivers.

As a rule, you're safest driving about 10 km over the speed limit or slightly less. I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for doing 60 in a 50 zone and none of the other drivers will get angry.

Insurance costs in Toronto are high due to liability (alongside the greed of the insurers). Lots of shysters and pointless lawsuits here. The make, model, or age of your car won't have much effect on the figure you get unless you're over 25.

yeah I'll be 25 on the 25th of Jan...hopefully things will be a lot cheaper then.

and about the left lane...I am a left lane lover as i drive often on highways...BUT i am talking about driving on Don mills on the right lane going the speed limit and people getting all pissy.

I know how to drive...most of the time

I won't actually comment on your driving in TO.. cuz you need to be an aggressive driver to make it in the city.. I am brutally aggressive when I drive

And yes I have had some scary moments driving with you... but I guess it could have been worse...

Welcome to the City.

You must go at least 10km above any speed limit.

There's a time and place for everything, I'm mostly nice to ppl and let them in when they are lane changing. But in rush hr, you must be aggressive and the biggest ass or you'll end up like poor Kelly over here.

not in asia!

here in korea, i would say only about 10% of people know the rules of the road and how to drive. its ridiculous.

also, try lebanon or some of the balkan countries like serbia and bosnia. some of the craziest drivers i've ever seen.

like orzone said, toronto driving is heaven!

steve.

^^ Toronto driving is heaven? Well depends which way you look at it. The way people drive? yes that's true because I've been to so many countries and let me tell you how fucked up ppl drive there. In friggen Russia, sidewalks are a part of a road! In Germany, there are no speed limits! In France, ppl hit you in the back and in the front when getting out of 2" by 4" parking spaces! In NYC, you can't drive period! So yes in that regard, Toronto is heaven. However in terms of fucked up traffic, that's a different story. Toronto has evolved so much over the past decade. More and more houses are being built, more and more ppl move here, and more and more cars are on the roads these days, however the roads stay the same and no highways are being built. The minister of transportation here is a RETARD!!! In other countries, I've seen so much being built to help limit the traffic, like building highways specifically for trucks or pedestrian crosswalks to help in downtown traffic jams. But here in Canada, with all the infrastructure in the world, we aren't building shit!!! Time to select a new minister!!!

unless its a school zone...

i dont like to honk or drive 2" away from someone...but if u piss me off then ull know...thehehe

Posted by malek on Jul-18-2005 04:45:

driving at speed limit... come on, you deserve to be honked.

Toronto is a nightmare?? compared to other big cities, its heaven. Try driving in Damascus, no one respect stops, right of way does not exist, and if there's no cops at the light, people drive thru when its red ... you'll have heart attacks. I drove for 10 minutes, then gave up, and I am a very agressive driver... but I just couldn't
Also, they honestly never heard of the blind spot.

Posted by E2EK1EL on Jul-18-2005 05:02:

In China there's no lanes and speed limits ... think about that. It's fucking nuts.

Posted by loca on Jul-18-2005 05:05:

Hmmm i don't drive here yet... but when i get my license changed to a canadian one... fear!

I have the worst road rage ever. Except for Carlos's sister. She's goes insane behind the wheel, which is one of the main reasons i love driving around with her.

my dad drove in manhattan once when we went to newyork
i was in the car
ive neevr had so much stress in my life AND i wasnt the driver

they only have one way streets, if you're on a highway a sign to exit is after an actual exit so if you see a sign then you most likely passed your exit and coming back to that exit you're most likely gonna get lost
like for example we ended up in queens somehow (99.9% black people from what i saw)
driving downtown is rudiculous, every 1.5 cars is a cab, no parking on the street cuz everything is taken, millions of people jaywalking everywhere and if you want to park underground its $24.95 US for 3hours, im not even gonna talk about those streets with the subway bridge on top of you and the poles to hold it divide the lanes in half.
fuck that, never again

edit: driving downtown toronto IS heaven compared to nyc

This is the same story I heard and it's confirmed

PPL who drive DT are by far 100000000000% better then suburb drivers. Even sur-passes all beyond GTA drivers.

Suburb Drivers can't Parallel park at all

B/C of the DT driving aggressiveness, it really trains you to be such a solid driver.

hey kel, it took me a while to get used to driving here too. i will even admit that i'm not comfortable behind the wheel here.

i went from a small town and driving on dirt roads with no other cars to living in Ottawa where drivers are super nice except running red lights when they have just turned (it's a weird observation i made) to toronto where everyone drives fast and no one signals where they are going and double parking is legal it seems.

BUT, i have been to Montreal where the drivers are assholes and highways are too narrow and all fucked up. and i have been to New York where there is WAY TOO MANY people. Toronto is actually good compared to other places and you will get used to it.

as for driving the speed limit, if an asshole honks at you for driving the speed limit then slow down even more. there is nothing that they can do. if you are going the speed limit, then they can go fuck themselves or go around, if they can't then back to option 1 (go fuck themselves).

I am also a fan of this maneuvre. The best way to do it is to simply remove your foot from the gas pedal and NOT compress the brake, thereby not signalling a slowing down via brake lights. You just slowly coast to a lower speed, which is even more infuriating to the driver behind you because it's not blantantly obvious that you are doing so. Usually by the time they figure it out, it's a nice chunk of brake slam and a sore neck for a couple days.

To all those drivers that like to honk and be obnoxious ******s: If you're in a hurry, leave earlier asshole.

LOL at the stories of the east!!! Yeah, Vlad, sidewalks were part of the road in Saudi Arabia, too! Then they started making 1.5 foot high sidewalks so now only the SUVs climb on top of them to try to be the first to go through a traffic light when it turns from red to green.

In Lahore, Pakistan, big, nasty shitting oxen also are herded along the public streets so try not to hit them! Not sure if that's a rule, though...I think it's a courtesy to give the animals right-of-way!
