Serious Windows Error - sysdata.xml HELP!

My computer randomly shuts down or freezes up, and when it reboots it says "windows has encountered a serious error" blah blah blah and gives me the codes....

BCCode : 10000050 BCP1 : BAC0E000 BCP2 : 00000001 BCP3 : BF898B70
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

and the file location of...

C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini071905-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\DAN~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

So, I googled sysdata.xml and came up with a LOT of stuff...seems there is a whole slew of people having this problem before. Some claim it is a problem with Windows XP, some with compatibility issues, some say it is Microsoft's way of spying on the comp by wanting you to send the error reports and looking for pirated versions, some say it is a Graphic card/ driver issue, some say it is BIOS related and has to do with the temperature of the motherboard, some say it is RAM related-
Then there is the very long list of what every seems to think is the solution for each problem.
The list goes on and on..

What do I do??

Do you actually have an ATI RADEON video card?

If you do, it might be worth checking out the Microsoft Knowledge base article and updating your display drivers as they suggest.

I realize how terribly inconvenient this is Dan, but it's worth it. I formatted my laptop about 2 months ago now and it is TERRIFICALLY SPEEDY WITH NO PROBLEMS NOW.

Dan, did you recently install any new software or devices?

either that or visit any sketchy pr0n sites and catch a nasty little invasive program?

or open any *.exe *.bat *.sys etc e-mail attachments?

Correct.

However, in the amount of friggin time it takes to troubleshoot the goddam thing you may as well just do the 'backup, erase, reinstall' thing.

Saves frustration on the "What the hell is wrong with my computer?" front as well as optimizes your system back to speedy settings.

yeah but if you don't understand how to correct the problem you'll never learn anything from it, and be doomed to having to backup everytime you run into any little bump on the road.

Personally, I've spent many, many hours troubleshooting all kinds of problems on my old computer because it was my baby for many years, I spent over $4000 on the damn thing, and I refused to let any little error cause me to have to back up 40 or 50 gigs worth on music and movies. In 6 years of faithful service, I only had to avoid a computer problem once by not eliminating it, and that was a nasty little trojan that wouldn't let me start up my computer. I found out it was only compatible with windows ME, so I installed XP, made it a dual boot system, and never had to see the little ****** trojan program again.

And these optimized settings you speak of can be attained just by doing regular maintenence on your computer like virus checking, spyware removal, defragging, and cleaning out obsolete software and drivers. If you are at all interested in understanding the inner workings of your computer, you'll be amazed at what you can solve for yourself.

Also, the best thing I did was formatting it. This way I can transfer my music to other people's computers now as I back all of it up to my portable harddrive.

see this is the engineer side of me. It's not enough to accept something as 'working', I have to know how and why, otherwise I'm at the mercy of other people when I ask for help. And it's not just technical stuff, I need to know I'm capable of handling any problem I might encounter.

are u talking about SATA

no idea what they're called. But it went from a long flat connection to a very small one, from what I recall when I tried a couple months ago...Been a little too lazy to go out and look for an adapter, if one even exsists.

yep, that would be SATA (Serial-ATA) as opposed to the long flat one which is just ATA. but as far as i know, most new boards come with at least 1 ATA (the one u have) connector to support older drives. do you know what motherboard u have? check the specs on their website

its those damn earwigs getting in ur comp and eating up ur hardware!!
