There have been so many problems with this club. Club plans have been off, then back on, then off, then back on...

I've heard there's been permit issues, contracting issues, and some construction issues.

Hopefully, it's smooth sailing from now on.

i know it'll be a while before im able to see this club again, but if it does happen that'd be so fuckin sweet... i liked that club much more than the new Space... maybe i like it more b/c it just has memories but i dunno.. it just had a sense of charm to it.. maybe b/c it never got packed like the new space does...

in short.. cant wait and hopefully the set up wont have changed much since space last occupied it...

Posted by PatMcGroin on Jul-21-2005 11:37:

i'd love to check this place out when/if it opens cuz i never got a chance to party at the old space....

i hope they get their shit together and i hope it doesnt take as long as nocturnal. we'll see i guess.

well then i heard wrong.. my bad..
i guess they said by the old space then.
but it's all down that street anyways.

Posted by DigitalPhoenix on Jul-21-2005 19:04:

This would SOOO rawk.
I'd love to see the "original" patio again.
So many mornings...so up....

Posted by Mattivi on Jul-21-2005 19:45:

if melly thinks its on ne 2nd ave, then it will not be the old space building, it probably is next door. from what i heard the plumbing is focked in the old space building, and that it is almost impossible to put a club in there. supposedly luis puig had somebody pour concrete into the plumbing, or so ive heard. this metropolis will most likely not be in the same spot, but probably has a similar room and space, not dissimilar to the old space. if that makes sense.

supposedly its a lot harder than one would think, pipes are underground which means they pretty much might have to dig up a large part of the floor. but i know very little about construction. but it makes sense that pipes are always the first thing put in before a structure goes up. i dont know draw your own conclusions. i had heard crobar had actually bought the space and were having a tough time.

Here's an article for you guys:

Good news for South Florida: Five new nightspots are coming soon to downtown Miami. Prophecy, Azucar, Amazonia, Shelter, and the Nile will all be part of the massive Metropolis club complex which is about to open at 950 NE 2nd Avenue. Five venues under one roof? "When you walk into a different room, its a different club," explains Metropolis Paul Brown.

Once inside the main door of Metropolis, patrons will be able to wander from room to room, enjoying the distinct music and decor of each area without ever having to leave the 31,000-square-foot building. "Every room will have its own VIP section and its own drink specials," Brown notes, "as well as its own promotional staff."

Prophecy, the main room, will have a dark, dramatic look, with custom gargoyles and costumed cocktail waitresses wearing black wigs. Featured DJs will include international superstars, and the music format will be progressive, trance, or whatever the A-list talent brings. According to Brown, Prophecy is meant for "the true music enthusiast."

The Latin room, Azucar, a lavish study will be furnished with hardwood floors, abstract prints, and red velvet furniture. Expect to hear a tropical mix of meringue, Spanish rock, and other sexi sounds - muy Miami.

Amazonia, as its name suggests, will feature a rainforest theme, with a wall-sized waterfall and a vine-covered ceiling. House music and Brazilian beats (not jungle) will fill this exotic room. Itll be reminiscent of a certain chain of restaurants, but with a killer sound system (and no goofy artificial alligators).

It wouldnt be Miami without a hip hop room, of course, and Shelter will offer all the urban ambiance anyone could want. A graffiti mural already covers the back wall, while chain link fencing divides the VIP lounge and DJ booth from the rest of the space. For added authenticity, an endless line of subway cars will scroll across a giant video wall.

The Nile, which will be the very, very VIP room, is being decorated in an authentic ancient Egyptian style. Hieroglyphics adorn every faux-finish surface, and the wait staff will be appropriately dressed as Egyptian princesses.

The music will be "vintage 80s, rock and roll, and retro," notes Brown. With a pyramid DJ booth and a moving sky video ceiling, the Nile will be the perfect place for the beautiful people to get their King Tut on.

The sound and lighting systems are being handled by Infinite, the Miami-based specialists responsible for some of the best installations in clubland. The digitally-controlled Dynacord audio system will allow the venue to micro-manage the volume in each area, or even send the mix from one DJ booth into any of the other rooms.

Patrons can expect an immersive sonic experience on any of the venues dance floors, but theyll still be able to converse casually at the bars and tables. Brown says that Metropolis will also feature "live video throughout the club," so patrons can see whats happening in different areas of the megaclub.

Besides offering club-goers five distinctly different club experiences, lush lighting, exquisite sound, and streaming visuals, Metropolis will feature an added enticement for downtown party people. "I know that parking is a huge issue," Brown explains.

"We have our own lighted, gated parking lot." Exact pricing has yet to be determined, but it will be "competitive." Initially, Metropolis will be open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

According to Brown, other nights will be added to the weekly schedule in the future. Also, monthly outdoor concert events are planned for the venues fenced-in parking lot. Thanks to its 24-hour liquor license, Metropolis will host various after-hours events, too.

Expect the grand opening of Metropolis to be announced any day now. A number of high-profile DJs have already been booked for upcoming events (Junior Vasquez will be spinning September 4, for example) so we shouldnt have long to wait.
