Thumbs down Radeon 9800 Pro - Noisy cooling fan

Is it possible to buy a cooling fan of some kind seperate? Or do they come attached to the cards only.

If the answer is yes to the question above, can someone point me to some decent hardware stores that may sell them?

Thanks!

I just bought a new heatsink and fan for my CPU, now I just need to make the graphics card stfu...

the answer is yes, probably. i have stock fan so I wont give recommendations

thats reassuring, except the "probably" part

Actually yes. I work with a guy who is super anal about computer noise. He is ALL about the quietest computer in every way possible. For his CPU and his videocard, he bought these metal leaf things from Zalman, www.zalmanusa.com They should have something for your quiet computer needs.

Thanks, thats usa, but I searched google for zalman uk and at the top of the first page was http://www.overclockers.co.uk.

I totally forgot about this site and I found just what I need.

Thanks!

If you're handy with screw driver, have a drill and tap, some machine screws 3x20mm or so, you can probably make yourself new mounting holes and get new fan. That's what i do with my video cards when fans die on them

i'd rather not play around with it and just buy one of those arctic coolers for the radeon 9800 but thanks for the tip

Whats the problem with a noisy fan?, It's cause they are pushing so much air, My PC sounds like a jet plane, Cause I have so many fans in the case, But I'm not complaining, There doing there job cooling the PC, So I dont care about the noise, Besides, I can't sleep well unless I hear the fans running. Sometimes my video card's fan makes noise, Thats cause its spinning very slow, To fix it, I took the fan off the heatsink and aplied some 3in1 oil into the back which has an opening covered by a sticker, After that, The fan starts working normal again.

No you don't understand, it's not just because it's pushing lots of air through, after all it's a stock fan and i've had it a while. It is actually TOO noisy, it rattles, for some reason it sometimes makes a loud "MEERRRRRRRR" when I switch my computer on, then my computer switches itself off after 5 seconds.

I want a new one for a more efficient cooler.

Serious? The noise of the noisy fans help you nod off?

Its not just the fans on the pc, But i also run the ceiling fans, and two fans on the top of my drawers, I cannot sleep into I hear the soothing sounds of the air from the fans, I can't sleep with total quietness.

noisy fan like the tornado, which i owned before, is like having a vacumm cleaner inside your pc and can be heard from 2-3 floors around you. It can be worst then going inside club and not enjoying it. Silent PC all the way or as close as possible.

I know some people who like to leave the TV on when they go to sleep. I do sometimes but not because I can't sleep without noise, just because I fall asleep without turning it off.

You and me both. I'm stuck in India for the next five years. Currently I'm managing by jury-rigging an airconditioner to my computer vents with duct tape and that flexible piping they use on dryer machines.

haha, whatever works...What are you doing in India?

Doing med school. Turns out I save about 5 years of my life if I do it here and transfer to the US after. This way I don't have to waste time doing a bachelor of science degree.

Can't be that bad then saving so much time, something different anyway, new scenery. I'd probably miss home alot though. gl

Long as I've got my comp, air conditioner, adsl, online shopping and fedex, I'll survive.

I always was worried it was money OUT the bank but if they pay you, even better

This one says it's for the 9800 XT, and I'd assume we have almost identically (physically) cards, so why does it say its for XT when it fits other 9800 cards? Just out of curiosity.

Yeah I posted the wrong one. I meant this one

http://www.memoryexpress.com/index....=5737&SID=29493

This one will fit a huge range of ATI cards including the 9800 and the pro like we have.
