How to shrink a cotton shirt

Hey guys,
Hope someone can help me here. I have a couple shirts that are pretty long on me and I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to shrink them. I looked all over the internet but there are conflicting ways to do it. Some say wash in cold and then throw in the dryer, but some say wash it in hot water and then dry it. Any ideas?

Wash with hot water, dry in hottest cycle for the longest time possible. Go for two drying cycles if you have to.
