EDM shoping in the US??
I am extremely dissapointed in the selection of EDM in ALL of the music stores I've been to here.
If there is anyone that disagrees, what kind of CD shop in the US would you go to to purchase some good EDM CDs? I have a hard time finding anything fairly decent in every place I've gone to. There are the Sam Goody's and the Wherehouse Music's but they don't carry the more obscure stuff (I say obscure because they are obscure here but I doubt they are in Europe) which is what I am usually looking for. There are the relatively more expansive record shops that usually just carry more of the local bands (Everday Music, Music Millenium etc. here in Portland, OR), which may have a Sven Vath cd or something here and there but are hardly expansive when it comes to EDM. And then there are the DJ/Vinyl shops (e.g. Platinum Records). But they are really only good for buying vinyl. I love to go to platinum and see what new tunes have been released on vinyl (even though the progressive sections are somewhat lacking) they are hardly the place to buy cd albums.
What I am looking for is a place I can go to browse a good selection of EDM cds to see whats new and/or find certain ones I'm looking for. I know ordering cds of the net is probably the best way, but I prefer browsing a record store. I dunno, something about it is much better. Plus I don't really have to know what I am looking for.
I reallize that this question may not have an answer as the EDM in the US is hardly popular, but well, there has to be something.

Same goes for my town in england, local record stores are full of R&B and thats about it, and thats a big hmv store aswell. So when i go record shopping now i do it all online, its cheaper and wide selection, I always chemical records (http://www.chemical-records.co.uk).

I thought record stores in America were full of great stuff. The ones I visited did, anyway.
living in a small town in north california means i have similar woes, but head down to san francisco/bay area and finding the more obscure material is a little easier. urban areas do tend to have more variety.
I'm sure there are great record stores other places, but in the Detroit area there are a few, but they don't sell trance or prog imports. It's mostly home grown techno (detroit techno), hip hop, r&b, pop or disco/house. Online is the only way to get them, and it isn't cheap, and you have to wait a few weeks to months after their initial release...which sucks.
Go to any "Sam Goody" store... all the CD's are under "Techno"

A lot of the major music distributors like Best Buy, Circuit City, Sam Goody and so on are good and keep up to date but that is only when they get their shipments. For example, the Ferry Corsten section has been empty for 3 months when I went in there until his new cd came out. But of course those cheesey techno compilations are always kept in stock at all times. 
Here's a better question, where the hell do people get the vinyls in the US? Ive had to do it all online and sometimes it's annoying. Although beatport is nice becuase of the sampling and downloads.
