Punk Rock is rock so:

- Rise Against
- Suicide Machines
- Less Than Jake

The last 2 are somewhat skaish though.

agreed...definitely one of the bands that stands out the most in recent years (2000+)..

also Coheed and Cambria are pretty badass..especially their CD, Second Stage Turbine Blade

My Chemical Romance....

EMO

I dunno boys and gals lately rock has been sucking its why I started to listen to trance...anyways i would have to go for the Rasmus and Cat power, slipknot thats pretty much it. The rest sucks

Posted by DC76 on Jul-26-2005 20:18:

Oh man, where to start?

Closure
Jet Set Satellite
Coheed and Cambria
Arcade Fire
Pilate
Breaking Benjamin (the song "So Cold" kicks so much ass that it must have sore toes That song actually featured in one of my dreams )
Evanescence
SYSTEM OF A DOWN!!
Finger Eleven (except "One Thing," which is crap; Scott (the lead singer) admitted to being completely slambanged when he recorded the vocal take Listen to "Drag You Down." That song owns you.
Armchair Cynics (especially "Bang")
State of Shock
Taking Back Sunday
Hurst (led by former Econoline Crush lead Trevor Hurst)
Thornley (led by former Big Wreck lead Ian Thornley and featuring former Watchmen bassist Ken Tizzard)
Chevelle... holy crap, don't even get me started on how much those guys ROCK.
The Music
Muse
Interpol's sort of grown on me, the guy's voice is kinda boring, but the music is good.
FRANZ FERDINAND.
Queens of the Stone Age
Britt Black (it helps that she's a JSS fan in her own right )
Lunik (Swiss pop-rock outfit)
Incubus

There're more, but I'd have to hear them on the radio

Posted by Lil-H on Jul-26-2005 20:22:

Soft rock:
Coldplay (their newest album sucked compare to the others!!!)
A-ha (Norwegian band, totally wicked)
Keane
Saybia

Goth Rock:
HIM
Withing Temptations (their new album "the silent force" is pretty awesome, check it out if you havent)

And now im listening to ABBA =)

yea most bands suck but if you ever want to hear really beautiful music you have to listen to classical music. Its not that bad and you gotta have a great deal of respect for these guys some have been known for over 200yrs. I wonder which rock band will be recognised in 200yrs other than the beatles and Elvis.

if you like Opeth youll definately gonna love Within Temptation (theyve done a track with opeths mikael whatever his name is called enter, try finding the songs restless, jane doe or julian).
Dark Tranquility - another swedish melodic death, only much better than the new crappy In Flames sound. try finding damage done or final resistence.
Soilwork - another swedish melodic death. needlefeast, grand failure anthem are good songs to check.
Eternal Tears Of Sorrow - finnish goth/death. Goashem, Autumn's Grief are good songs.
Nightwish - goth/symphonic metal. Check out 10th man down, beauty and the beast.
Sentenced - doom metal. Brief is the light, excuse me while i kill myself.
Dimmu Borgir - its like a popy version of black metal... really good. puritania, mourning palace.
Iron Maiden - greatest band ever. any song.
Dream Theater - the second greatest band ever. any song from scenes from a memory album, or better yet just listen to the whole album its like a one piece song.
Iced Earth - the modern version of Iron Maiden. A Qustion of Heaven is a must hear song!

soilwork is the shiznit. a bit cliched when it comes to metal, but they serve their purpose for rockin' out.

Posted by OrZonE on Jul-26-2005 20:38:

Definitely In Flames , pre soundtrack to your escape.
Eternal Tears of Sorrow
Children of Bodom
Therion, post their deathmetal stage.
Some Nightwish, and Dimmu as well

Bloc Party

The new Meshuggah Album is currently my favourite metal album.

Meshuggah - Catch 33

It is a rollercoaster ride of brutally complicated distortion. It's fucking brilliant. Some moments are chaotic bliss with weird riff structures, while others are funky & dirty. 10/10.

Iron Maiden. Specifically anything from 1982-1988 and their new (post 2000) stuff.

Beyond that, lately I've been into mostly prog/power metal. Try these bands:

Sonata Arctica (power/speed metal from Finland)
Kamelot (their album The Black Halo is a prog masterpiece)
Symphony X (a more melodic Dream Theater)
Nightwish (symphonic goth metal with a female vocalist)
Blind Guardian (Nightfall in Middle-Earth is a fantasy metal staple)
Iced Earth (very Maiden influenced)
Avantasia (The Metal Opera reads like a who's who of power metal)
Rhapsody (cheesy, but so is most power metal)
Helloween (Keeper of the Seven Keys defines the genre)
Stratovarius (Finnish scene veterans, their 90s material is great)
Adagio (Sanctus Ignis is a great symphonic metal album)
Dream Theater (can't go wrong really)

I was listening to this album a couple of days ago.

one of my fav. metal albums

Machine head - burn my eyes

I am not sure about new stuff, but I used to like bands like these;

the Haunted (Swedish thrash-death metal)
At the gates (Swedish thrash-death metal
Vader (Polish death metal)
nevermore (American prog. thrash metal)
Arch enemy (Swedish thrash-death metal)
Samael (Swiss melodic black metal)
hypocrisy (Swedish death metal)
