holding a build up

i have a questin. when you are at a show and your watching the dj start to go off on his set. people say he holds a build up for so long and then just lets it go off.

the question is how do you hold your build up. is it all in the track selection or what. thanks for some info.

There's no such thing as "holding a build up". The DJ is merely playing a song with a bigass build up in it. He's not doing anything special or meaningful with the track that you couldn't do if you were in his place.
