Your advise for a week in NYC ??? or two?

hey peeps,

imagine u would never been in ny before, only LA (6 weeks alone) and latin amerika (nicaragua for 4 weeks).

what stuff would u advise to take with you?
what is really essential and 100% indispensable???

(and keep in mind that i am german )

an above-ground map.
an underground (subway) map.

dont forget to check the nyc visitor's thread of course.

make sure you bring your camera with you and wear it around your neck, also stop in the middle of the street and point up at tall buildings while holding your wallet out in your left hand w/ a few bills sticking out of it, and a map in your right hand... talk to the bums as they need friends too, run through central park at midnight you'll meet some nice folks. ask people where the best atm's are as you need to withdrawl lots of cash (make sure u tell them that) check out harlem upper sides of manhattan as well.. walk down dark alleys and pic up needles as souveniers....

Bring everything that is permanently attached to you and some cash, everything else your TA family will take care of.

subway maps are free. just ask the dude in the booth and he'll give you one.

dont get jacked. avoid south bronx, jamaica/hollis queens, queensbridge, brownsville brooklyn, east new york, avenue D in lower east side in manhattan, washington heights, lennox ave. harlem.
