Meeting people from Online IRL - Share your stories
I dont know if this thread has been done before but im bored.....
So first the question...
So do you meet online friends IRL?
If so do yo have any good stories?
Ill start with a weird experience.......
This was back when AOL was the shit and there was no broadband for home use.....
So I meet this dude in a aol game room and coincodentally he lives nearby....We talked on the phone and on the comp for like 8 months and he seemsed really nice, he sent a pic and looked pretty good. We were just online friends and didnt really have plans for hooking up or anything or at least so i thought.
He comes to my house to pick me up in a cab and he looked nothing like his picture but I wasnt looking to hook up anyway, he lets the cab leave thinking I would invite him into my house but hell no I dont know this dude so I met him on my corner, he let the cab leave and then we got on a bus and train into the city to go to the movies.
He is completely different from the way he seemed online and everything just isnt sitting right with me. We get to the movies and I call my friend from the bathroom to let her know where I am and details in case anything happens. I get back to meet him and we head into the movie, I cant ever remeber the movie cuz I wasnt there much longer after that. The whole time I was sitting there he kept staring at me instead of the screen and kept pinching my arm, really hard too and it was pretty annoying so I kept telling him to stop but he didnt. Finally I was fed up and said I had to go to the bathroom, meanwhile I was really headed towards the train station to go home. It was a big theatre and pretty crowded so it took me a while to get up stairs and out of the place. So I look back and there his is and he sees me trying to ditch him. I leave and walk towards the train trying to loose him between people walking on the street so then I see him start running. He catches up to me when I am at the train by the turnstyle and I coulnt find my metro card, then I remebered I didnt have one and he paid for us to get on the train, so he looks at me and says whats wrong and then he pulls out his wallet to swipe me in, strangely enought I caught a glimpse of his photo id as he was doing that and his name was not Rob like he told me it was it was Damien. so then I am totally freaked....after he swipes me I run and I caught the train eventhough it was going the wrong way (not towards home) and he didnt make it. I put him on ignore and never speak to him again. 2 days later I get a call from "Rob" and I am like WTF dont call me!!!!he is like what did I do and I told him for one you arent who you say you are and he said how would you know that you NEVER MET ME! and I was like yea I did, and then I called him DAMIEN and he was like OMG Damien is my roomate, some to find out it wasnt him thats why the pics and personality didnt match. When we set up the meeting it was his roomate on his comp!!
Even after that I didnt talk to either of them again cuz the situation was just too weird.
OKAY....now share yours....

That's f00ked.

Buahuahuha.... anyway, my brother meets people he knows from the internet all the time. In fact, I'd say that half of his friends are people he met through MSN, photoblog and some other weird stuff I don't know of.
As for me, I don't really have stories like that (although I've aproached girls on the street a couple of times and literally spent the rest of the day with them), however, there are loads of TA's I'd like to meet someday
The first people I ever met from online were actually my regional TAs. After meeting several of them, I became more comfortable with the thought of meeting people from online. For a year or so I started regularly meeting people that I talked to online, and then I just stopped because some of the people were nuts
I don't think I've met anyone from online in a while now. I'd rather just meet people in real life. Especially now that I live in a big city, I meet new people every day, there's no need for online meet ups.
first experience was meeting this girl at college after speaking to her for about an hour online. she was rather rough and she told me how she had to have abortions, tossed off guys in car parks
.....i wasnt that desperate.
second time around i met someone after speaking to them for a few months online. ended up being with her for 5 months after that.
the only other people i've met online has all been at raves
i met that Nukleuz character, thoroughly good chap.

holy shit that story was entertaining!
hahaha
only one worth mentioning is my ex blair...met him on TA and i flew to cali to meet him and as i was walking off the jet (had to take a little tiny plane from LAX to Santa Barbara so i had to like walk across the runway to the little airport) and approaching all the people waiting for their visitors, i immediately recognized him and he was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more adorable in person than his pictures so i was more than pleasantly surprised and we hugged really tight and he smelled so good and felt so good...best trip ever.
we stayed together and did the visiting thing for a while...those were the best trips every time...we would drive to L.A. and go record shopping and we even drove to northern cali to stay at his parents house one weekend and i met the family...and we went to the driving range at this fancy golf course his dad belonged to and i was hitting balls everywhere and messing up the grass (i was so embarrassed but he was laughing at me) and we drove around the course in the golfcart and had lunch...it was so cute.
oh yea the first trip i went there i stayed for like 5 days and spective and exponent (old school ta's) drove from san fran to meet up with us and we all went out drinking...that was fun! spective got wasted and puked i think and i put gell all over his hair and spiked it up. hahaha
don't ask why we broke up. i'm a moron still kicking myself.

Okay I just remembered one story I guess worth mentioning. I met some guy online and he seemed genuinely nice, so we started talking a lot online and of course it progressed to talking on the phone, etc etc. Anyway, so one day a group of friends and I decided to go downtown, and he decided to go as well and meet us down there with a bunch of HIS friends. I thought well of the situation, because if worse comes to worse I could just leave with my friends. Well, clearly he was very sneaky and only showed me pictures which made him SEEM to look a certain way. Slender, attractive, whatever. IRL... He was HUGE! Big guy. Tall, fat, and very unattractive. I had totally forgoteen that this guy was a whiz on photochop! Anyway, we were at some club and I decided to be nice and at least talk to him, keep a friendship. That was, until he went psycho on some guy for dancing with me screaming that I was clearly "taken" and "his girl" and he needs to "back off the property".
Of course, I was a little more than creeped out, so I made sure we never met up again, blocked him, etc. But he still had my phone number. So I started ignoring all the phone calls and text messages that I would get. Then while I was driving across the country, he text messaged me a million times saying that I "couldn't leave" and he just let the "love of his life" go and that he would "build me a darkroom" if I would just stay and that I'm "not to be afraid of true love". True love?! WTF I was never even interested in this guy in a dating factor, and I made that clear from the get go! CREEP
