Ignorance

I'm going to vent in this post..so if you dont want to hear venting..move to the next thread.

I'm riding in my car today with my mom and she suddenly starts rediculing the "music that I listen to". "It's redundant and your sister's friend said that only people high on drugs listen to that music."

What an insult.

"Why are you always listening to that music 24/7. You are obsessed. I think your sister's friend is right. I hope you come out of this phase soon."

Phase!?!?!

She continued to bash me personally for enjoying the music that I love.

"I listen to this music 24/7 because I love it. This is my hobby. This is what I'm obsessed about, this is why I have turntables in my room to play on. It is okay to be obsessed with something and have a hobby, mom. Why do you think football players turn pro? Because they are OBSESSED, it is their HOBBY, their PASSION."

I believe that my mother does not have a hobby in her life. I couldn't think of one. I guess that it is because of this, she simply can't comprehend enjoying something so immensely in life.

This whole experience made me realize how so many other people on this planet laugh at EDM in general and its people. Anybody else with similar experiences? Sorry about the rant.

No i know what you mean...like a lot of the people that i know will tell me that im going to a rave to get screwed on E....when im going to hear my fav djs perform and dance all night drug-free lol but my suggestion is that you bring your mom into the living room and tell her that you have to talk with her ....then when she least expects it...........WHAM!!! the old foot to the head lllllllllllloooolll hahhaha

To be honest I think it's quite pathetic (not to mention useless) to get worked up about it so much..

I got an awful lot of shit from my parents for listening to hardcore, yet I couldn't care any less. Not back then (some ten years ago), not now.

Save yourself a heart attack and laugh at her.

I still do, every now and then. Just for old times sake. I don't really catch up with new releases though, can't be arsed, but I do put on some old tunes when I'm feeling like it.

Agreed, you shouldnt really worry about it man, its your choice that you listen to it, not hers. As for us having similar problmes that other people laugh at me for listening to EDM, I could care less, its my life and Im going to listen to whatever my heart desires.

Posted by Palladium on Jul-31-2005 21:45:

my parents tell me that all the time

"those tracks sounds all the same...all about beats & drums...no vocals...you're giving me a headache"

"why you spent money on that music...you won't be nothing spending your money on that...instead buy a house or put a business"

i hate that shit...

your young.
quit whining.
deal with it.

I have the same problems with parents and other people cus I'm the only to like and know emusic... and listen to it the entire day...
Sometimes ago I could enter in a discussion easily... now I'm tired of this...
If somebody dont like the music I listen to, I dont care about it.
The clean answer I can give to these people is:

"I listen to what I like, respect."

my dad calls it "druggie music"

Posted by flavdave on Jul-31-2005 22:52:

So when can we bring up the fact that anytime someone talks about rap/hip-hop/r&b here that it's ok to bash it because its to be expected on a trance board?

yes, why would we care about rap? its not even close to trance or any other EDM music.

Except, of course, that both types of music constitute electronic instruments and are designed with dancing in mind. Not to mention their shared techno heritage.

But you already knew that, so you must have just been sarcastic with that post.

I can think of more rap songs that blow me away more than the best trance music I've listened to.

No I wasnt being sarcastic. I dont really care about rap anyways, to me its pointles music that gives a bad message to it, thats why i dont choose to listen to it, but this thread wasnt about bashing rap anyways
