novation k station hardware vs v station plugin

Are these two pretty much identical? I was going to get the v station vst for logic however my friend ended up giving me his k station synth. Just wanted to know if you guys had any experiences with these.

Hi! I have a comparison between the V-Station and other Novation synth (i dont remember lol) maybe is the K-Station , made by a member of this forum a time ago (I cant find the old thread ).
I dont remeber if the hardware synth or softsynth sound first sorry

I hope that the owner of the test still here

I tried the K-Station while I visited a big music store, and I have to say I was shocked! :-P Didn't sound much different than V-Station. V-Station is in my opinion one of the 5 best VSTs out there.
The main difference between hardware and software is usaly the quality, it's noticable. For instance, no VST can produce a so deep, clear and raw supersaw sound as the JP8000.

Posted by hardikaveri on Aug-02-2005 12:04:

is there any downloadable supersaw presets avainable???

btw franco... nice pic of mrs turunen..
she can sing classical opera but that 80 heavy.... not for me

It sounded different with the filter. I heard that v-station powercore version has that problem resolved so it should sound just like a k-station.

Link up again, sorry (a lot of ppl downloaded the files but nobody post here :conf

off: The songwriter of Nightwish is a F*** genius, i love it. Id recommend all to listen to it , only moan not to know them from before.

if your interested just pm me, I have all the K-station presets converted to V-station, so there's no need to buy a K-station.

The "test" mp3s aren't there.. but the only difference was that hte filter sounded a bit crisper at times and a few of the presets sounded different too...

The fact that V-Station sounds as good as it does, makes it one of the best VST instruments you can get... but the fact that the hardware sounds just like the software makes it one of the worst VA hardware synthesizers you can get... sort of funny.

Thanks TripAudio - erm....I have a really dumb question though...

how do i now load the presets into V-station?
When i click FILE>lOAD BANK it only wants .fxb files,
When i click FILE>LOAD INST. it only wants .fxp files,

what am i doing wrong?

MP

RTFM!

You import them inside V-Station, not through the VST-host.
Damn! You made me boot up FL to look what the friggin' thing is called.
CURSE YOU!
Anyways... If you click on "Global" and "import" then you will magically open up a file dialog that will suck you through the screen and right into ... Maybe I should've left that part out.
Ignore that last part...
Just open the .MID file, and start browsing your new cool presets.

Geez thanks Corteoz!!!!

I inherited my computer inc hard drive and all software from my brother who upgraded recently and he hasnt got round to digging out all the manuals for me yet - thats why sometimes I ask dumb quesions! If only it was as easy as inheriting experience and knowledge too!!

The virus vsti sounds just like the hardware version so that makes the access Virus also one of the worst VA hardware synths you can get right?

No, because the Access Virus sounds amazing.. but the V/K-Station sounds about 1/2 as good. Duh!

Posted by Krispy Kreme on Aug-06-2005 00:12:

so you think the v-station sounds better than the k-station?? I have the k station right now, but if people say the v-station (software) sounds better, i might sell my k station (hardware) and buy the v station haha.

I didn't know there was a powercore version of V-Station !
Does it work like the Virus powercore ? With an extra hardware card ?

Posted by Serp on Aug-06-2005 12:15:

Timothy: im pretty sure the virus vst you're reffering to is the powercore version which is basically an exact replica of the hardware anyway whereas the V-Station sound is generated purely by the CPU and not by a dedicated card (powercore), so you can't compare them

if you're thinking of the vst you use with the Ti then it's hardware again.

There is no Virus VSTi.

The differences of the K-Station and the V-Station were pretty big(i was actually suprised). Like comparing 8bit graphics with 16bit.. The samples posted up here didnt have indication of which was the K and which the V... but the better sounding one also sounded more like the hardware Supernova, so id guess that is the K-Station. Ofcourse you can debate as to if that difference is noticable on a PA, or why you couldnt do good tracks with it.. cos you can. But thats not the point here

I believe he was referring to the Virus|Powercore - a DSP expansion card dependant software insrument modeled after the Virus Indigo (B).

I've done tests and the two sound exactly the same - because the plugin is able to run on the DSPs of the expansion card, thus being able to use the same algorithims as the hardware unit.
