Disconnected with Trance Music lately

Hey

I've witnessed that my love for Trance music is fading away lately. Maybe it's due to the lack of good productions of this time, everything just sounds the same all the time , same synths and boring uplifting basslines which r starting to get on my nerves.

I used to be a frequent listener of ASOT and a big fan of Armin , Tiesto , Ferry and all the major trance guys but it seems that im not intersted in this genre of music anymore .

Instead of this i'm more into Electro and Prog House music ( Not MCPROG which also sounds all the same lately ). The Dj's i hear nowadays r Mylo , Sasha , John Digweed , Sander Kleinenberg, , Max Graham, steve lawler etc... their music is a lot more sophisticated and diversed and only now i understand why These genres and dj's dont get bashed like trance music and it's djs. Besides im really into all the Synth-pop , electro and new wave from the 80's which imo created all the genre of trance as we know today.

I would have never thought that this would happen to me as i was a True Trance , uplifting and MCPROG addict and always thought to myself how can ppl enjoy listening to Prog House and Electro but nowadays it's just amazing for me to hear Prog or electro sets , so well built and organised and gives me the thrill more than what trance used to give me back in the days.

Does anyone feel the same as i do regarding trance and it's lack of creativity in the past 6 months or so ??

Roy

p.s when i say Electro i surely do not refer to Ferry Corsten's electro music which i do not like at all !!!

check Dibaba's new album - nice mixture of electro, synth-pop and a bit of deep/tech-house.

Good. Because it isn't electro. It's just another tag trance fans slapped on his style because they felt the need to be different.

Furthermore, welcome to the bandwagon.

it happens to all genres. everything eventually starts to sound the same. eventually prog and electro stuff you listen to will get old.

its the same with any genre, you get tracks that are pure generic *insert pigeonholed genre name here* whatever you listen to. its all about weeding out the dull and unimaginative tracks and looking for something a little bit special.
ps, mc prog is shit

u r not alone
there are still good trance tracks, check out marc marberg - guarana for something thats different yet still trance, but good tracks are fewer and further apart than the amount of releases would have you believe.

trance is still there - itll always be there, but the majority of tip top dance music being produced atm isnt trance.

the gareth emery v lange 'this is new york ep' gives some hope

I still get goosebumps when I listen to the old tracks like Tenshi or something.

Something that helped me keep my fire burning, is not listening to the same type all the time. Take a break, and listen to a different genre, and come back in a couple months?

Posted by Roy123 on Aug-02-2005 18:44:

Just an example , in the past 2 days ive been hearing the track:
hell ft billy ray martin - je regrette 'superpitcher rmx'

I'm just in love with this tune and ive never before repeated a track more than 10 times until this masterpiece !

I just cannot imagine a Mcprog Schulz style track ot an Asot track topping this , at least this is my opinion.

Lately ive been hearing alot of Sasha and digweed sets and they r all simply amazing , flawless sets unlike sets of Armin or Tiesto who have their good days and bad ones. Recently their sets are just a bore , nothing special in them , repeated constantly and not really well mixed and built !

It was really hard for me once to understand the beauty and sophistication of Prog and Electro music , i also used to diss it and wonder how can ppl listen to these styles as they were simply monotonic and boring for me. the breakthrough for me came 10 months ago when i was starting to listen more and more to the GU series and attended a Sasha and a Nick Warren gig ! Even though i always loved sasha and i still think that GU13 of his from Ibiza is the best CD ever composed i still prefered the fluffy uplifting trance back in the days .

I agree, threads like these seem more like an obfuscated attempt to go 'Neener neener neener, I dont like trance anymore, so I am better than those of you that still do'

Ive been feeling the same with trance, or maybe just that trance today almost feel overworked.

When i listen to the oldschool stuff i can pin out what i hear.

Bass
Beat and percussions
main lead
Pads
And fx

Today its
15 layers of bass
Beats with 200million layers of brushes or whatever and percussion fx
3 layered main leads (im pritty sure it was layered before but its starting to get insane sometimes)
Pads HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE pads, after the pads your full of it just like if you have eaten to much of your fav desert and never want to eat more...ever...again.
And fx like if theres no tommorow, and stabs like hell. Oh and dont forget the choirs that they are using now...to make it even bigger and more filling.

I guess its just evolution, more is better.
But i do enjoy listening to other genres, shit ive even been listening alot to fear factory and El-p and much of the stuff is fresh for me and i like that. Trance has a way to get to much of the same.

Do i still love it?

oh yeah.

Ohh common , what's your problem of someone expressing his opinion , it's a forum after all and u dont have to take a glance at this thread if u dont want to.

Im not going to use the search button for everytime i want to post something here , it's ridiculous especially for a topic like this which is not that easy to find by the search button unlike a discussed thread of a certain Track which is fairly easy to find when the "search" option works .

Besides i never said i was better than anyone who hears trance music , i just stated my opinion regarding this genre lately. I never diss ppl for types of music except those who hear dj sammy , lasgo or commercial rnb !

Cheers

At the time you posted this thread there was like another 3-4 in the first page with the same content so there is no need to create a new one. And if you didnt understand my first post what i said is that no one cares of your life or if you liked trance before and now you become l33t cause you discovered prog or electro. You can get the same answers just asking for music in the same style of another prog/electro tracks but your life story wont make you look better, trust me.
