Any comp wizards in hurr?...Need Help Plz
Hey
Problem: The problem im having with my comp is that my harddrive keeled over...something happened were i was installing reason and my whole harddrive frak'd up.
Although i can access some files...the files i need doesnt not allow me to access...a pop up comes with a message saying unable to access folder because of I/O device error.
Now my question is....is there a way i can possibly get these files again with a program?...or is there a specialist in the GTA whom can help me recover the files.
I have not created any boot or restore disks...so that option is out.
Thank you in advance.
Seb
a specialist will charge you an arm and a leg.
recovery programs vary in their abilities.. it depends on what type of files you are trying to recover..
have you run scandisk??
1-shut down windows, check your hard drive connections, reboot. if this fails, proceed to step #2.
2-shut down windows, take hard drive to a friends house, plug it there and see if you can get your stuff back.
if #2 fails, then your hard drive is finished, if it succeeds, then your motherboard is finished. You will know what to repair.
as for data retrieval from a damaged hard drive, it can be done, but expect to pay a hefty price.
calling all haxorz
ok thanks for the quick respones
but let me clairfy
Joint:
I'm trying to get back zip/rar/and floop files
scandisk takes days to complete and does not fix anything
Malek:
Connections are all done properly...was tested on another comp...same prob.
ya i would prolly have to send it to someone...but if it was totally finished...why does it allow me to access and run some progs?
Seb
when you plugged it in another computer did you run windows off your harddrive or the other's computer harddrive? maybe there's friggin spyware ?
but i probably think you'll need to send it to a specialist.
sometimes a hard drive fails in some of its sectors while the others are healthy,... could explain why it seems to be running fine with your applications.
simple solution...
throw the machine out, move to the hills of montana, take up kaczynski as your mentor.

if you know linux you can try to mount the partition in knoppix..
http://www.tucows.com/downloads/Win...FileManagement/
http://www.google.ca/search?q=data+recovery+software
Its called Backup , Backup , BACKUP
Is there any clicking noises coming from the HDD? Does the computer seem warmer than usual? etc etc..
If yes to any of those questions the HDD is fried.
As Malek said, take the comp to a friends house and make sure you use THEIR HDD to open Windows and not your copy, so set it up as the slave drive.
Data recovery places are going for about $1500/average sized HDD these days; so have fun with that...not to mention they don't garuntee any recovery either.
If you have two HDD's you could slave the disfunctional one to a healthy one (with it's own copy of windows installed), maybe you would be able to access the data if the drive is not being used to run windows.
