Old songs with dodgy lyrics
some of you guys are probably aware that not all songs made decades ago are as innocent as they seem. In fact some old songs have some really dodgy lyrics.
I cant think of any examples myself, but I know this sort of stuff went on all those years ago.
so, list some old songs that you think have lyrics that aren't quite right.
First song that comes to mind is My Sherona. Ever really listened to the words of that song?
This is probably not what you were thinking of though.
apparently "Brick House" is about girls with a nice booty. I didn't know that until I watched one of the multitudes of "I Love the 70s" marathons on VH1
How long did it take for McCartney to admit what Lucy In The Sky was all about?
I heard that Rock Around The Clock wasn't really about rocking, but about flyfishing.

I need u guys to give examples as well
i.e. Lyrics.
Ask and you shall receive. It goes a little something like this...
My Sharona
by The Knack
Ooh my little pretty one, pretty one
When you gonna give me some time, Sharona?
Ooh you make my motor run, my motor run
Gun it comin' off the line Sharona
Never gonna stop, give it up
Such a dirty mind
I always get it up for the touch
of the younger kind...
Come a little closer hun
A-will ya hun
Close enough to look in my eyes, Sharona
Keeping it a mystery gets to me
Running down the length of my thighs, Sharona
Never gonna stop, give it up
Such a dirty mind
I always get it up for the touch
Of the younger kind....
"Sky rockets in flight... afternoon delight."
wow... I couldnt even make out the lyrics (Because I have never been able to make out lyrics in songs) but:
I always get it up for the touch...
"Of the 'younger' kind"
hmmm.... yes... very dodgy indeed
MacArthur Park is one of the greatest songs ever that was ruined by its third grade poetry lyrics.
I mean it: the lyrics are seriously seriously BAD. But the song is a gem.
wow this thread is fucked...
no clue tho...
there must me some more dodgy ones...
c'mon, can't believe no one has mentioned "Puff, the magic dragon". Probably the most famous song about drugs that passed tself off as something else
Just to clarify, it was a poem written in 1959, and the writer claims it was about a "loss of innocence" and nothing more. However, those that wrote the song version of the poem (Peter, Paul & Mary) did later reveal their song was about marijuana
too many tunes about these days with vocals just added for the sake of it,its quite a skill to get a vocal over a tune that works, theres alot of good old tune that do it well, cant remember any right now, chicane - offshore vocal works well, amt darey - liberation & some old space brothers tunes use vocals well, but these days productions just seem to follow some kind of default template
um, I think u landed in the wrong thread
The Shamen - "Ebeneezer Goode"
It was number one in the UK for weeks (!) and the chorus has shouts of "E's are good, E's are good". It also had a verse which contained "Has anyone got any Vera's? Looovvvveeelllllyyyyy!" Vera's are cockney rhyming slang for E - Vera Lee.
There's countless other songs like this as well
The Strangler's - "Golden Brown" (All about Heroin)
Rolling Stones - "Brown Sugar" (Heroin again)
I'll have to say The KLF. Justified & Ancient anyone?
