So after weeks of patios, cafes, and music on the beach

I'm welcomed home to this news:

quote:

Residents in Oakville undoubtedly love the fact that they live a fairly short drive away from the bustling metropolis of Toronto, but are fortunate enough to have found a quiet oasis away from the city. But just how quiet is too quiet?

Thats what some are asking after news spread about a proposed bylaw that would ban certain noises from 7pm until 7am.

Mowing the lawn could soon be illegal if you do it between those hours, and resident Jason Rossi believes thats taking things a little too far.

Thats a little crazy because people work until usually five, six oclock, traffic time, by the time they get home they want to eat and then after they eat they usually do the grass, and I think this is a bit of a joke.

But it's no joke. The town of Oakville is considering setting strict limits on specific kinds of noise. Should the bylaw pass, music blasting from outdoor speakers on patios would also be illegal.

That's extremely unfortunate, remarks Laura Brailsfor, assistant manager at Paradiso. With this type of a restaurant, it is a casual fine dining restaurant. We like to have a certain kind of ambience, and we feel that the music really adds to that.

And while some believe the bylaw is too strict, others look forward to its possible implementation.

When I come home and I'm having dinner on my deck, I don't want to hear ten lawn mowers going at the same time, argues another home owner.

Oakville residents will have a chance to voice their opinions in the fall before council votes on the bylaw in October.

Here's hoping i still qualify for a dutch passport

Ok Jay, im with you on this one. This is absolutly crazy.

Watch some idiot is going to call the cops because kids are playing in the park. Im telling you its going to happen.

When i heard about this a week ago, i was an interview with a kid on the news:

"but where will i play" is all the little girl said.

I've had nothing but bad experiences in that town

dont think laws like this will be limited to oakville.

Its seriously time to move... ive been looking into dutch citizenship all week. Second route could be british. Either way this place is sadly way too F*cked up for me to stay here any longer. It will be years before i can do anything though but its certain that i wont be raising a family here.

well lets not speak too soon i guess, it hasnt been passed yet, and hopefully it wont get passed. otherwise im making it my mission to go once a week to Oakville, and just start running around screaming from 7pm-7am.

but the funny thing is, i actually feel bad for cops because of laws like this. They have to uphold something they dont believe in.

Posted by Jayx1 on Aug-03-2005 19:59:

well this law just tops off the endless stupidity that is constantly rammed down our throats here...

i wont have any of it any longer

Unreal!

haha .. go sterile city !!

This is just another sad display of how this country really refelcts what its leaders want, not the people. And that whole lawnmower shit can go straight to hell because if you live in the suburbs or anywhere out of Toronto, your going to have a bigger than average lawn than people in the City. As for the music, WTF is next..."Loud music is the music of the Devil" crap?

Posted by Jayx1 on Aug-03-2005 21:21:

actually i think most residents think this way as well. These laws are just a reflection of how un-neighbourly and intolerant canadians have become to anything that doesn't involve themselves.

"why should i have to listen to their lawnmower?"

etc etc

why have we become like this? My theory is because we spend so much time in our cars we forget how to be human. Look at modern neighbourhoods. There are no community gathering places unless you count the mall. People drive everywhere eliminating any communication on the street or in public areas. Therefore people lose tolerence and respect for their community and shit like this starts to happen.

Im getting out of here. I decided it while i was away. This is no way to live.

So...when are they going to be doing something about the crazy rice rockets running around with fart cans on the back that pump out DMX through their stereo's at all hours of the day/night?

This is rediculous. Everyone complains about everything these days.

So TRUE

Wow talk about taking it too far This is what happens when the average age of a country looks like this:

In 2004, the share of seniors (age 65+) in the population of each region ranged from 11.2 per cent in the GTA to 15.3 per cent in the Northeast. By 2031, seniors will account for 18.9 per cent of the population in the GTA and 31.5 per cent in the Northeast.

So sad

then explain why i saw old people tapping their feet as they lay on the sand as house music was blaring on the beach in bulgaria?

I dont think the problem here is old people. It goes way beyond that.

Posted by Playa24_7 on Aug-03-2005 23:57:

There should be a bylaw on people washing their driveways in sandals with no shirt on, then sitting on lawn chairs in a garage with it open, and watching people walk by their washed driveways lol

I agree, but I still want to add that it's also because of the way of life in North America. All everybody ever worries about is their job and money (primarily, making more of it). The stress related to that just results in the general population losing all tolerance for one another - any little thing will set a person off cause they're constantly high-strung.

I wonder how many of these ridiculous laws must be implemented before you can no longer say that you're living in a free society. Where is teh freedom?

i dont know how many more laws it will take but ive decided that im not going to find out. Sadly this once great country is running itself into the ground on so many levels.

I guess greed and money are the root of all evil...
