>DJ Set with LiVE Guitar

I'm planning to do an experiment with my friend who plays on the electro guitar. I'll be spinning some Progressive House and Trance.. he will be playing his electro guitar. We never tried this, we didnt even have a chance to test it out. Logically, it should be real good.

Any opinon on how it should be done? Any advice? Thx

It worked for the prodigy

having seen them live several times and seen how well it works having a live guitarist, then go for it.

good point. which prodigy tracks come to your mind when u think of it?

@all: and should i tell my friend to play simple riffs or u peeps think it wont hurt the music if he goes into complex melodies?

give him the tracklist of the set your playing, or you could practice together... let him be creative.. some tracks could use a big ass solo, some just minimalistic riffs..

be sure to record the set, and post it here and send me a pm, im gonna forget it within ten minutes.. this sounds promising

I think its a great idea, I always wished I carried on learning the guitar so I could do something like this, I say go for it, record it and send me a download link

He could really add something to the set, would be nice and refreshing to hear some groovy house with a kickass riff in there, I think he could go complex aswell depending on the track, if he listens to trance or house at all he might already know how to make a certain melody that would compliment the tune, if not, he could play some stuff that might not fit the tune very well, just practice abit, it will be worth it and you'll have a shitload of funny doing it.

Psy people include guitarists. Infected mushroom has used one before during a set. Sounded insane. Saw another vid that included psy with guitar. great combination it is. It should go well with prog.

Your gonna wanna find the keys of the songs you play so that he can play in the same scale or else it will sound like rubish.

My friend is really good on guitar and can pick up on the scale preety good. So we jammed one day and noticed it was hell of alot easier to play guitar along with some DnB. I play mostly trance but what he transformed The Odyseey by Bassline Smith to with the guitar is amazing coupled with the beat cutter on a CDJ 800 you can just jam for a bit

i've fucked around a little bit doing the same thing you guys are.. but i just made some really simple beats in FL and played over the top.. nothin like playing over tunes or anything like that. sounds really interesting, so post the link when you get it done!

Ooh... 'their law' 'Voodoo people', and a lot of the stuff from 'fat of the land'. I fyou can get hold of a live set of theirs, take a listen.
Its nto prog or trance exactly, but may give you some ideas as to how it can work.

depends on his guitar style. My bro has been playing a long time and mainly plays death metal but loves blues, Ive always wanted him to play some blues over top...would be sweet.

so good idea, i really wanna hear how it turns out.

a local breaks dj did that here with a guitarist. it was pretty sweet! if done properly, it'll be pretty cool.
