original melodies

hi, do any of you know of any songs that has their melodies taken from another song?

like, solar stone - solar coaster is from the beatles - while my guitar weeps

please , no obvious ones (same track name, remixes, remakes, etc)

my housemates was watching this film called 'withnail and I' and i kinda recognized the closing theme as the credits scrolled on the screen and stuff, because it was that 'while my guitar weeps' track

anyone else know any?

LOL you obviously can't read.. the thread starter said that already; read the opening post more carefully next time.

But yes, there are lots of threads about tunes based on/using elements from some other tracks. I might dig some later on but now i feel too tired.

What are you talking about? There nothing in 'while my guitar gently weeps' that sounds even remotely similar to solarcoaster.

Yeah, that's what i doubted but couldn't be sure because i haven't heard 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'. I have seen the movie only once years ago so i can't say much more about it either.. but do remember the part which later on hit me like a lightning "hey, this is where Solarcoaster bases on!", so something they did borrow from that movie anyway.

Posted by carmatic on Aug-05-2005 20:21:

oh wait thats the wrong track... its confusing when the song titles are scolling off the screen like that, there were like 7 songs that the credits mentioned and i simply picked the one on the bottom right thinking that they are in order of being played in the movie...

anyway, anyone have the right track name ?

hm i didnt know about how many threads there were made about stuff like this already, i simply searched for 'solar coaster' in the forums and thought nobody mentioned it... i didnt mean the obvious stuff like barbers adagio for strings , or the airbase remake of the rock theme, but completely obscure ones that we otherwise wouldnt be able to find out about, like on the closing credits of the movie i didnt see any mention of 'solar coaster' , so it isnt obvious and therefore belongs in here

but if im babbling more spam than sense, then please do correct me or something, im too lazy to search the forums throughly too

read yourself blind carmatic

Solarcoaster is taken from three places.

The vocals from the movie True Romannce
The melody from a Vangelis track from early 80ies.
The bells in the begining is from another Vangelis track, which I cant recall.

I have the names of the tracks written down at work.

Posted by carmatic on Aug-14-2005 17:32:

airbase: yeah, coming from someone who remixed the song itself, so i guess you got to be right...

redd: thanks for that link, its a huuuge list of songs but i can tell that alot of the songs are only vaguely similar, and most of it are just more like coincidences than solid copied material...

Tiesto - Athena is taken from a Symphony by Handel, although I can't remember which one.

I think I've read about a classical song called Albinoni... or was it the
artist'?
By the way: Rollerball (above e beyond) - albinoni got the same melody...

The rolleball track and the tiesto track are trance interpritations of Tomaso Albinoni's Adagio in g minor

That's the bugger. I'm not too hot on my classical.

I wish people would just write their own melodies, it's not that hard.

Im sure most trance-heads no this already but the Airbase remix of Rah's "Glow" (or is it Wave - I've been told they were incorrectly labelled on the vinyl??) is in fact based on Moogwai's "Neon", also on Platipus.

That thread has some brilliant observations in it, I'd never notice half of them but it's really very good

i think they are yes... pretty sure 'wave' is actually the balearic sounding one with the splashing samples & bongos in the intro, since that was originally put out as 'Airbase pres Moon - Wave' on mp3.com

Worm Popper

Hey, thanks for that. I never did know which was which. Its "Glow" that I love then, the ultra-uplifting trance masterpiece oozing with cheesey goodness

"Wave" is a bit weird in my book, and only worth playing at a chillout! Bloody hard to mix in too with that strange percussion.

Cheers mate.
