getting ready for a new pair of headphones...
right now i have audio technica ath-m40fs. i can't seem to find much info on them, much less any comparisons...
i really like them, but i think i'm getting ready to move on up. mainly because i want something a little more comfortable for extended work. on these phones, the cord always seem to be in the way. the cushion on the cups sit right on my ear, and after a couple of hours, my ears start to hurt from being smooshed against my head by my phones.
i pretty much used these phones for everything. just plain ol' hearing music, dj'ing at home, gigs here and there, and writing music. -so i want something that sounds pretty flat.
in a nutshell, i'm looking for something that can be considered studio-quality, and double as dj headphones like the AT's but w/better ergonomics.
some of my opionions on stuff i have tried in the past:
senhiesers -some seemed kinda gutless, and other times, i just didn't like the way they sounded compared to AT's.
sony - i hate them all.
pioneer - i checked out these dj ones, this one time... i don't remember what model exactly. too colored, the highs where all up in my face, and i wasn't digging it, not even for plain ol' dj'ing, much less for writing music.
technics - some silver ones. i liked the cord, and how it was detachable, and i wasn't getting all tangled up in them. i was pretty cool w/the way they sounded, but didn't get the chance to compare w/the AT's side by side. but holy fuck those things were ugly. i found them so repulsive, that i almost refused to consider listening to them. i don't think i can stand looking at these thing s day in and day out.
any ideas? other brands/models? i willing to go up to about $250 tops.
Two things...
Their is a sticky thread up the top about headphones
Heaps of posts like this one have been posted before so obviously you didnt search!
Very soon their are going to be hords of people telling you to do the same.
actually, i did some searching... but mostly by punching the model i have, here and other places. i was hoping i could find something where some tried these, and then something else.
i saw the sticky. i'm still sifting thru the thread...
you are generalizing way too much.
all sonys dont sound the same
all sennheisers dont sound the same.
i hate all sony headphones except the mdr v7506. great headphones for the price ($100). the 500/600/700 suck IMHO.
if you can spend that much on headphones, buy the sennheiser HD-25s. they will cost you around $200 but concensus is that they are probably the best pair of headphones on the market right now, for your purpose.
