Tunes that sound like other Tunes!

Theres this thing thats been buggin me, probably for the past 2 years. And thats tunes that sound like other tunes.

EG. Mario Piu - The Vision and MArc Et CLaude's - Lovin U (Ratty REmix) Don't the bass synths sound remarkably similar?

How about Allure - No More Tears, Blank and Jones - DJ's Fans and Freaks AND Members of Mayday - 10 in 1? They all share such similar melodies!

Its good when producers use there own synths on remixes of other tunes, cos its like there own signiture on the music. But it really annoys me when I hear a tune, think "I've heard that before" and try and find it on the B-side of one of your records, and end up finding bugger all!

Favourites of mine are Tiesto- Urban Train, Velvet Moods (remix) Silence, (remix) Sunrise (remix), as they all include bits from each other. (u'll no what I mean!)

What do u lot think about all this, and what other tunes have u heard that are pratically the same?

try airwave - save me and kings of clubs - revelation (airwave remix)

but theres a perfectly good reason why this happened...

Posted by capricorn15 on Dec-11-2001 20:45:

cygnus x - super string compares to many (although i think this came first)

-airplay - music is moving
-sonic inc - taste of summer (fire and ice remix)
i know there are more, but i can remember them atm
late

Talking

what about darude and everyone of his tunes. sandstorm and feel the beat. so many other ones..........

Posted by inatrance on Dec-12-2001 02:27:

well if your looking for very very commercialized.. theres darude - sandstorm and "omnibus" by lautsphrecher .. i cant stand either of them, but omnibus is almost an exact imititation of sandstorm with a little half japaneese half UK person saying "omnibus" maybe im just outa my mind but its the stuff they play on the radio where I live

vdm-shamu(armin van buuren remix) and push-strange world(2000 remake) sound very similar. shamu is a little faster than strange world other than that they sound the same.

Wink Very interesting thread:

I dont mind when pieces of the same melody and bassline are used in tracks created by the same producer, but it seems very "un-original" when things begin to sound all the same...and i hate it when people tell me that about electronic music..

My example:

Alibi-Eternity & TranquilityBase-Razorfish: The synth lines are virtually the same...

rba - no alternative
zombie nation - kernkraft 400

Posted by dj_mdma on Dec-12-2001 09:55:

Smiley DJ good comparisons!

Other remixes that sound the same that I've been thnkning of:

Alice DJ - Better off alone and Lost Tribe - Gamemaster (Signum Remixes)
Lost Witness - Red Sun Rising and The Morrighan - Remember (Lange remixes)
BAlearic Bill - Destination Sunshine , Trance Wave Pres. Moontribe - Dance of The 7th Hill, and all other Magikal Remakes (Tiesto rmx's)
Des Mitchell - Welcome to the DAnce and anything by Airscape (although I don't thnk that couts as one of the producers of Airscape is also part of Des Mitchell!)

Posted by djcresto on Dec-12-2001 12:38:

All dumonde tracks sound the same, well at least many of them.

But its very logical that remixes and tracks of the same producer sound the same or have a lot of things in common.

Posted by Cream21 on Dec-12-2001 12:47:

Maybe what you also think about is that many of the big producers in one genre use the same equipment! And many parts of sounds you hear are "working sounds" that are free useable sounds from the "instruments" that everybody can use and that you find in a lot of songs back!

Okay this is of course not always the reason, sometimes the producers really steal ideas and melodies but defentaly not always!

Ascention - Stasis
sounds very similar to
Blank & Jones - The Nightfly (Transa Remix)

also:
Hi-Gate - Caned and Unable
and
Yomanda - Sunshine (Hi-Gate Remix)

Thumbs down

The one I don't like is

Shane - C'est Musique (Armin van Buuren Remix)
John Rees vs Helios - Beta Blocker

Ripped off melodies suck...

And

Lost Tribe - Gamemaster (Original Mix)

has always sounded a lot like

Robert Miles - Children

to me, but both are great tunes.

Kay Cee - Escape and Franchino - 999.

If they're not the same, it is the biggest coincidence in the scene. However there must be something behind this, for example Kay Cee is Franchino or something, because the melodies are the same.

oh god the most anoying thing.. i got this random song sent to me on AG called like "houston we got a problem" or somthing like that.. and it was an exact copy of brainbug - nightmare, with a resolution turned down, and every once in a while a dumb "houston we have a problem" voice.. it made me angry more than anything! they destroyed a good song by brainbug.. and claimed it was theres

Posted by luxor on Dec-13-2001 06:42:

how about Abnea - Velvet Moods (Dj Tiesto remix) and paul van dyk vs tilt - rendezvous (quadraphonic).

Posted by ABTsportsline on Dec-13-2001 10:21:

You guys missed the biggest ones....

Armin's "Communication" = Picotto's "Like This Like That"
PPK's "resurrection" = Luna Park's "Space Melody"
Mario Piu's "Vision" = Blank & Jones's "Nightfly"
Fire & Ice's "Souvenir De Chine" = William Orbit's "Barber's Adagio for Strings"
Pants & Corset's "Sacrilige" = i forgot!

and there are a bunch others, but i have long forgotten. this topic has actually been beat to death over the last year... if you do a search for threads like this you will find a lot.

What? How does THe vision, sound like the Nightfly? Barbers Adagion for strings also sounds like Skip Radiers feat. Jada, but thats only because it does use the same sample! The sample of that tune is actually copyrighted, so it wouldn't be a coincidence if tunes sounded the same as that. THe same with The Clockwork Orange, Cygnus X and Aurelia have sampled that too. (The Orange Theme and Vampries Song)

Posted by tranStreemAdmin on Dec-13-2001 13:20:

Dumonde Never Look Back and Binary Finary 1999

Rank 1 - Airwave - DJ A.M. Rio El Fotre (i think thats the name)

Posted by ascension on Dec-13-2001 17:19:

me thinks BT - Flaming June has a similar melody structure to Robert Miles - Children

and anything by ATB... all sounds the same... rather annoying

Posted by Fatboy on Dec-13-2001 17:38:

Well, this has been mentioned a thousand times, but Airwave - Mysteries Of Life and Sasha - Xpander sound very similar. Also Lightforce - Join Me can resemble Robert Miles - Children, although Children is a million times better. I remeber a site calling Join Me Children on steroids

Peace
