Collaboration

Hi
I'm looking for people to do collaborations with. I'll work with anyone, with any skill range, I just wanna maybe learn some new tricks(or teach some =P). I'm no noob, nor am i pro. I know collabs usually don't work out, but as stated before, I just want to learn. Anyway, pref. FL users, send me a PM or on AIM breaksnbeatsrgr8.

Hey. Im interested as well but some example songs would be good yes . Maybe some more info as well, such as, what plugins/hardware you have and what style do you prefer to produce. Just some general info .

Cheers,
Zac

ME: Hi, so you ready to start the track?
HIM: Yeah, sure as hell.. What synths shall we use?
ME: Errr.. what do you have?
HIM: Not many, send me all you got, cus I only have ts404 and 3xOsc, well I will, as soon as you have sent me FLStudio.
ME: Yeeaaaahhhhh....

Bahaha, that's hilarious. It is strange, seems like a lot of the people who want to do "collaborations" really just want someone else to do the dirty work and make their track(s) sound decent...

I had a few people ask me a while back and they actually HAD software and instruments, and were actually good producers that I thought I could learn a thing or two from, but the projects just never took off. The people got too busy.

I did come up with an idea with one of them though - mainly, that it's a waste of time to "share" in the production of a track without having a game plan. Best way to do a collab IMHO: have one person create a whole pantload of hooks - melodic lines, sound morphs, pads, washes, drumloops, etc. (the sound designer), and the other one load them into a sampler and mix them with some other stuff (the arranger). Sorta like a remix without an original.

Well this thread is rather popular, but I think the collab will only work with a couple people. I am kind of in the same boat as this guy, not a pro, not a novice. If any of you want to collab with me, you can check out my stuff and decide for sure. www.soundclick.com/djslyfox has a lot of my stuff, but actually most of it is older, I havent finished many new tracks recently. Best way to tell me is to PM me or email me.

Note* I have a pretty sweet project underway, maybe you want to help with that.

Importanter than note** I only know how to use FL Studio. That is all I have.

I don't know how to get collabs to work. Cubase projects + all the samples are rather large. I think it would be best just to do it with someone that lives nearby, and can comeover. Anybody ever have a successful collab? How did you go about doing it?

I have been wanting to do a colab with someone but I mainly use hardware synths and only a software sampler with cubase sx3/sonar.
I think Diginuts way is one of the better ways to go about it.

That's the way I normally work if I'm collaborating with someone. I find the most fruitful collaborations are if I'm working with a DJ who doesn't have any production skills but who comes prepared with loads of ideas & examples, and I basically act as their engineer. It's usually quite a challenge because you have to translate someone's sometimes fairly vague ideas into something more substantial and appealing to them.

I'm working on two collaborations at the moment and both seem to be going very well, although they're in the early stages.

first online collab that worked; me and a guy called chrysus, i sent him a melody i made, he threw it in a project he was working on with drums and bass and all that, we sent it back & forth, a week after it was done it got signed.

second; me and a guy named aniki; he sent me some drums and stuff he'd been working on. we took did stuff to the project, sent it back&forth, two days after mixdown it was signed.

it can work, but between those i have had prolly ten or fifteen failed collabs.. just gotta find the right guy..

The best way is to try and learn how to do it by yourself.
