Need quick help with power supply voltage *lol*
my laptop power supply just decided to die, so i went and bought a new generic universal one - i checked with the guy in the store and he said it's the right one to replace my old one.....
before i connect it i wanna make sure i don't fry my laptop, so i need some help with the voltage settings. my old power supply says:
input 100-200 V 1.5A
output 18.5V 4.9A
the new one has adjustable output - it says "set the DC voltage selector at the desired voltage position (ie. 15V/16V/18V/19V/20V at 6A or 22V/24V at 5A)
i have no idea which one i need to use - 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22 or 24???
can somebody pleeeeeeeeeeease tell me which one won't fry my laptop?? *lol*
(sorry to ask here, but there's no guys around me at the moment to ask!! *lol*)
go back to the store and get them to do it for you.
the difference in the amp settings betweem the two units (im assuming A stands for amp) sounds a lil dodge to me.
otherwise, set it to the lowest. nothing should \"fry\" if its set too low.
hmmm well i just got told that either 19 or 20 will do the job nicely and that the laptop has an over-voltage protector anyway.........so, i put it on 19 and seems all good for now
thanks!!
rather than going by the output spec of your old power supply you should look up the spec of the input voltage on your laptop itself.. it *may* differ from your old power supply voltage slightly, or it could match..
in any case, 19v should be fine, and no need to go upto 20
be careful with the ampage though - set voltage slightly lower but just keep an eye on the heat
