Car help

Sorry for the thread, but I was just wondering if anyone around here knew of a good place that won't charge a crazy amount of money to get my tire either repaired or fixed.

My tire has a slow leak in it somewhere (I think it is around the vaulve) and I used to be ok with putting air in it once every other week, but now I have to do it every 3 days or so now.

I was going to take it to Canadian Tire, but I was told not.

So does anyone know of any good places to take it. I am close to North York, but I am right on the DVP so location isn't really all that much of an issue.

If it's a slow leak near the valve then it probably is the valve/valve stem. If that's the case any garage can fix it. It will likely run you $20.

^^^well that's not bad then

If I need a new tire though, will most places be about the same price, but will vary on the actual labour fee?

the labour fee will vary depending on the mechanic..

i would've suggested our mechanic - but their labour is pretty expensive.. ($75/hr)

Tire prices will vary from place to place. Some garages charge higher mark up on tires then others. Some tire & rim shops use the tires as loss leaders hoping that they'll sell you rims to go with them.

I couldn't tell you any good places in North York, sorry.

So I will probably be looking at something between $150 - $200 for a new tire with labour?

I just don't want to get ripped off cause I'm a girl and they think I don't know anything

Beck Automotive Ltd
(416) 222-6583
630 Finch Av E North York, ON

just down the street from our house.. between bayview/leslie on finch..

try giving him a call (either Tom or his son Mitch will answer) you can tell them the mckerracher's suggested to call to see what kind of damage you are looking at.. they will give you a pretty accurate quote..

if the labour only takes 1/2 an hour, they will only charge you 1/2 an hour of labour..

the issue is whether you will need a whole new tire i think..

Becks are honest guys.. my parents/myself have been nothing but pleased.. they really try to do what's best for the car/client - because that keeps us going back..

i had a similar problem, it was a leak around the rim - all the guys had to do was patch it up. 10min job, 15$.

if you have a small leak like i did you're looking at about the same type of deal. if they decide its not repairable and you need another tire alltogether, don't go and buy a brand new one. get them to put on a used one - smaller shops will have used tires or will order from wherever for cheap.

like joint suggested, find a smaller shop cause they'll do it the way you want it done and for less.

good luck

I would suggest bringing it to an Active Green & Ross shop.
I've had good experiences with them repairing my tires. Go for a free estimate and see what they say.

Karen for your car a tire should not cost any more than $175 installed.

If someone is charging more, youre being ripped off.

Posted by 4-play on Aug-05-2005 14:21:

Get your tire checked first to see if it really needs to be replaced or not?

If it does, find out the tire size (width, ratio, and wheel size). I then suggest checking the price @ www.tiretrends.com or www.1010tires.com

Find out the price, and then call Wayne @ Tireworks in Mississauga. They have always been able to match internet prices, and sometimes prices in the US (which are much cheaper than Canada). I always get my tires done from them.

Once you have your tire, it should not cost more than $10-15 to have it balanced and installed.

Hope this helps.

I have driven by there on my way home from work a few times...I will give them a shout today.

Do most places give a free estimate?

Also, do tires have a warrenty? My car is just at 62,000kms

Karen we just had a flat tire and brought ours to a tire store on jarvis and gerrard.

To repair it they said it would run around 35 dollars, and replacing it(which we ended up doing) was around 150. But it depends on the tire and kind of car.

Posted by TrickDaddE on Aug-05-2005 19:39:

K,

$150-175 for a new tire is getting up to the performance (S , H )rated tire prices.

I think if you have to replace the tire it should be significantly less than $150 balanced and installed.

As for repair it should be no more than $20 maybe even $10 if you give mario a smile!!!

But you right not going to Crappy Tire.

Go to a Joe Blow tire shop that sells used tires and you can probably get the tire fixed or a used single tire for $50-$60 installed with lots of tread wear left. You would be supprise how often some people with $$$ will change their tires. Some do it every winter!!!

I'm hoping that is the price with installation.....

I hope you get it fixed, Karebear!

Best of lucky honnie... spilling out mad dough over a tire is ugly! I hope you get a good deal and it don't cost you much, girl.

Jem.

I paid less than that for a brand new set of Blizzak WS50s last fall. Then again, the tires I need are 195/75R14

Posted by Dancing*Queen on Aug-06-2005 18:57:

Well they were able to repair it...there was a nail in it. I went to the Active + Green place and they charged me $40 with tax

They said I need new tires and he showed me the tread mark, but my lease is up in a month and a 1/2 so I am not sure if I should bother. He said I may be ok depending on how often I drive it, etc.

Posted by TrueToTheCrew on Aug-06-2005 20:17:

Canadian Tire charges $16 to reseal a tire. im not sure how much it is if they have to patch one.
