My Top 100 EDM Tracks

NOTE (26/01/07): I've updated this, so a lot of the replies might make no sense.

It may be ever-so-slightly self-idulgent to dedicate a thread to my list of favourite tracks. In my defence, I'm not the first to do this (I think Cobalt or Floorfiller or some veteran TA has done this before). Anyway, what with the constant "what's your all time favourite" threads, I thought I'd put something definitive together. It's surprisingly challenging putting together a list of your Top 100 tracks, and when I'd done and went back, I changed many things.

A few things: I used "EDM" because it gave me a lot of flexibility. You might not think some of the list is really EDM. I don't frankly care. Any factual errors (names, dates) go under artistic licensing. I haven't mentioned specific mixes, and each position can be considered all of the mixes of that particular track. I make no apologies for my bias towards or against genres. Any cheese that appears in the chart is guilty, but no less definite.

Enjoy:

Posted by GrimReaper on Aug-05-2005 17:59:

That list looks quite impressive and honest (which is good), lots of my favs in there too. Maybe i'll do mine later tonight or tomorrow, we'll see if i have the power for it. .

Great choice this tune is an all time classic and true to the fact is it can still be played today.

Posted by Acton on Aug-05-2005 18:26:

it would literally take me f00king hours to make up my top 100 list, and even when i done it, ill prob change it.

Seconded. WTF!

"Any cheese that appears in the chart is guilty, but no less definite."

Posted by DJ Cinos on Aug-05-2005 19:44:

This actually inspired me to (start to) make my own top 100 list.

And like WTF, Blast The Speakers was THIS tracks. I like it too!

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Aug-05-2005 20:47:

Yeah... didn't understand that last bit, mate.

And I was hoping to inspire some lists from other people. Hopefully I'll see some variation, rather than constant anthem trance from everyone.

where's rank 1 - airwave?? that topped the tranceaddict top 100 last time we did that but i don't even see it on yours. what kind of chart would lack that?

I ran that chart and Xpander won it.

This, however, is my list, and I don't like Airwave.

yeah i wouldn't put it on my list either. i mean its a classic track and has influenced a lot in the genre, but not one of my personal favs either...

I wouldn't include airwave either to be honest im not sure how it got to be so big really. Also the fact that both vocals are aweful.

ps. I did buy the cd single can't say i like it that much now tho.

rank 1 did better ..

Baby D - Let Me Be Your Fantasy (Rank 1 Remix)
York - Reachers Of Civilization (Rank 1 Remix)

and the other tracks after airwave

Posted by Denser on Aug-05-2005 21:07:

in trance energy 2001 intro for rank1, the mc dude introduces rank1 as the heroes of 'last years' biggest hit airwave..i doubt they would have gotten to where they are without the tune. granted both are top notch producers.

now its cheese..how things change.

i still respect airwave..king kong aint got nothing on it.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Aug-05-2005 21:10:

Look, it didn't make the list because I don't like it. Don't get offended just because my tastes differ to yours.

Posted by Gauss on Aug-05-2005 21:32:

Nice list.
I, honestly, couldn't make a personal top 100.
Main problem is lack of experience with trance, seeing how I'm listening to it for maybe 2 years.
I don't even have 100 tracks that are my favorites for real. And I wouldn't want to force it.

As for Papua New Guinea, I think it's alright, but I (kind of) found it a bit boring.

Posted by Excite on Aug-05-2005 21:35:

i'm not saying airwave should rank at the top of your list. what i'm saying is that any respectable top 100 edm tracks of all time would have to have it in there somewhere. btw where is gouryella, 'for an angel', 'out of the blue' and 'carte blanche? u obviously are not a big fan of classic uplifting trance in general.

It will click one day im sure, try the marco v remix for now. Might be too much of a 'shock' to go from tunes (c)200x to (c)1991, if you never heard the original before.

Posted by Nostalgic on Aug-05-2005 21:47:

jay - z - 99 problems? im not gonna argue that hip hop isn't EDM because it is...but out of all the hip hop songs out there you choose an average track from jay-z? he's made far better songs than that

well that's just it isn't it. this isn't a top 100 of what the majority thinks...its a personal one.

Posted by josh rising on Aug-05-2005 21:51:

Fuck Airwave. It has no meaning! But if you take Day Time (4 Strings), Airwave`s biggest competition at the time, you can tell that altho Day Time might not be as appealing/exciting as Airwave, it has much more meaning and was WELL thought out.

But anyway, this list is good!!! I don`t see ANY Belgian trance tho, not surprising. Do you like any? lol. Minimalistix - Close Cover? Sylver - Turn The Tide? Both classics!

Why don't you make your own top 100 instead of complaining about SYSTEM-J's? Just because you like Airwave doesn't make it the best trance track ever that "everyone needs in their list". Accept it.

I have Marco V mix. I suppose I'll simply have to listen to it a few more times. -.-
