vanguard filter problem

I like vanguard but I got some problems with it for a long time. I get noise when the filter is fully opened. ( it sounds quite nice when the filter is not fully open ) Listen to this mp3 ( a trance lead and a trance pad where the filter goes from closed to fully open ) to get the idea.

I did nothing to it, just the onboard Fx and a compressor to prevent clipping. Don't know where this noise comes from. I don't have this problem with any other synths.

i guess he meant that, i wouldnt know what else, the sounds he created are nice, and clear, knowing its vanguard

Yep, its quite a typical vanguard problem, I have this problem quite often... hmm, some things you could try:
- First of all, reduce "drive" to the minimum necessary. A massive "drive" in vanguard can be quite deadly to the sound and in most cases I think you should avoid it (except on dirty 303s or Psy synths)...
- Dont go too high with the cutoff level. Only because you have the possibility to increase the cutoff to full, you dont really need to. Stop it when it seems to sound odd.
- Another thing you could try is to decrease the decay of the first envelope. The sounds are getting shorter and you avoid a bit of the noisiness.
- Check if there is no LFO active. If there is an LFO with extremely high speed and a very small filter cutoff interval, it can cause noisiness.

If this still doesnt help, you should try to reduce the noises with an Equalizer, or with a good De-Noise plugin. But remember that you always should keep a bit of noisiness in your sound because it will make your tune sound more "alive" in a way.

Sounds fine to me. When you EQ it, boost around 5khz to take away from the attention to the high-end.

I also have this problem with Vanguard, hence I don't use it that much.

You can also try a small attack on the amplitude envelope to reduce the 'click' on first contact. That's what I sometimes do with either Pro53 or Pro52 plugins...

Hey guys,

For the slow pad I would use a DeEsser, for the ARP I would use a band-compressor.

Quite simple, just add them to your effects channel. Tweaking them is quite fun cos you can see them move!
