there is psy that isnt trance

how can psytrance which is a form of trance not be trance?

Posted by twisted on Aug-09-2005 20:16:

basically the trance that dominates the market today is european trance, which was basically brought up in europe. psychedelic trance was brought up at around the same time, arguably in Goa, India. two completely different scenes, with completely different values, etc.

after the term techno found its place, psy and euro were both called trance. i guess someone threw in the psy to tell each style apart from each other.

the "goa" sound originally spawned from industrial and EBM type stuff, or so ive read. and it does show...

european trance's origins..are...i dont know exactly...

someone else finish, argue, add, to this for me...

but, in a nut shell: they are the same, but so deeply different. they represent two completely different cultures, yet they have the same "trancy" sound.

OK, R'n'B music is actually Psy slowed down to 80bpm

Psy trance was trance long before euro lost the rights to be known as 'techno' and became 'trance' instead.

Why did euro end up as 'trance'? Pads, I guess. They both used them on occasion so the link was obvious!

Theres so many genres of Psy now that its pretty much a genre in itself. Psy Trance, Psy Dub, Psy Tek/Prog are all well established in the Psy scene. I've even heard they are making Psy Breaks now.

When I was first getting into it, I thought there were some similarities, but the deeper I look, the less it seems like the Trance scene. In general, the hardcore fans/producers try very hard to distance itself from the Trance scene as a whole.

It did start in India during the heights of the Goa Trance movement which did get some attention from Oakenfold for a while. This was about as close as the two scenes came to being one. Most of the good stuff today comes from Israel although its very much a worldwide movement. Japan, Mexico and Sweden produce a lot of the music too although you'll find stuff coming out of pretty much any corner of the world with electricity.

Its much more based around live acts too. There are few supertar DJs in the scene and its mainly an outdoors festival based scene as opposed to clubs. Its basically the alternative trance scene. Get into it.

The best stuff comes from England imho.

But yes, psy is psychedelic trance. Trance with mindtwisting sounds. Goa however, I'd call a genre of it's own.

goatrance is also trance. wtf are you talking about
goa is more trance than todays "eurotrance"

it's all the same, it's all engendered by machines ;p
