Schulz style basses

Sorry for these type of threads. I know everyone suggests using the search function, i've done this and had no luck, as well as using google and other websites... i was wondering if any1 knows of any tutorials, or wot bassses are used in the tunes in markus schulz's sets... Miami 05' Disks 1 & 2, the bass used in them is pretty much the same for a lot of tunes. It sounds awesome, so if any1 knows how to get that schulz style going i'd appreciate it

yep I think so too.

and btw if you have atmosphere, check out the bass patches, I think there's one or two that are pretty similar to schulz's bass.

Im interested In this also ... Ive heard samples of the Miami Set and good lord I'd Love to know how he gets that sound ... Pretty interesed in the Coldharbour Sound too ... If anyone can help me, or anyone who wants to know out ... please do ...

Prime example of the "Coldharbour" bass sound That Im highly Interested would be His "Oceanlab - satellite [Coldharbour remix]" ... that remix has a great example of what Im looking for ...

You cant expect someone to download an entire set just to hear some bass sample. If you actually want help, post up a sample or STFU.

Posted by gowansy on Aug-11-2005 14:35:

i posted the set because i thought it would be nice for ppl who want a whole set. so why dont u shut the fuck up? some very nice ppl on this board aint there i asked for some help i realized ppl where winding me up, oh well. i post tunes and examples in a friendly manner and get no replies yet i reply to others work. it would be nice for a little in return. i guess to get a reply in on this fucking forum u gotta be controversial, a complete and utter wanker, or have the words PVD, Tiesto, or Armin in yur thread fucking title.

How about this homeboy ... your either intellegent enough to know how to do the basses we're talking about or your dumb enough to pick a fight over the internet ... Im goin with option B since you just acted like an asshole ... so here's a sample ... Know what we're talking about without having to listen to a sample because you listen to trance enough to know ... or shut the fuck up . peace.

i've gone to the trouble of extracting a sample from one of schulz's sets.

Christ, you really are a fucking moron. Asking for a short sample instead of a 1 hour set is unreasonable is it? And it looks like your the one picking the fight... er... homie... boy... jigga...

thx for the link but it doesn't seems to work

schultz bass

Try long notes, made up of sine waves.
The off-beat "varbing" is either done by modulating with an tempo sync'd LFO, or sidechaining a compressor.

what is varbing? I've been doing this for a long while and I've never heard of this? Did I miss something?

Posted by Kiddy5825 on Aug-12-2005 15:19:

varbing

Varbing is a word my freinds and I made up.

Posted by Limit on Aug-12-2005 15:50:

that should work now?

cheers for those that have given me some help and contributed, rather than moaning, cheers

i posted that set because i thought it wud be nice for some ppl who like his stuff to download it. i was going to post a sample soon afterwards but i just formatted my computer and had to redownload soundforge n stuff. Some complete twats around here

Posted by Limit on Aug-12-2005 17:22:

what your gonna want to do is to use a mid size attack on most of the notes as well as route velocity(play with velocity levels) to trigger an lfo and the lfo to trigger the filter envelope, use a triangle wave for the lfo but dont set the depth of the lfo to high so that it starts to pump...just set it enough so that you get some movement in the bass sound.

This is by no means an exact replica, just a starting point for you to play around with.

heres a sample of what I used in my newest project....not the exact same thing but somewhere along those lines.

sample

Ok the link works but when I said a sample, a 10 seconds sample where we can hear the bass clearly does the job. You know, it is just for convenience. I don't have a huge connexion and I don't want to spend 1 hour downloading a set. If you want to share this set that's fine, you can do, but also think to attach the precise sample, you will get more replies.

So, is this the kind of sound you expected ? http://perso.wanadoo.fr/TranceDevotion/MSBass.mp3

this is the VStation patch : http://perso.wanadoo.fr/TranceDevotion/MSBass.fxp

and the midi notes : http://perso.wanadoo.fr/TranceDevotion/MSBass.mid

Posted by everyMan on Aug-12-2005 21:06:

hum when I load the patch the oscillator 2 transposition isn't working..
set it to 0 then reset it to -1
you can try to play with the filter attack, nice alternatives sounds if you tweak it.
I gave you the patch without any effects, you can try to add a little chorus or stereo separation to make the sound surround like MS one.
You can also add a high pass filter at 40HZ and maybe reduce the 3KHz a little.
