Sounds of Down Under 022 w/ Paul Moelands & JulesPLees - 17th Aug

Andrew Campbell presents. Sounds of Downunder Episode 022

Wednesday 17th August - 8pm - 11pm

This month on the show I have trance super producer and record label owner - Paul Moelands (Octagen/Re:Locate) & Australian Guest DJ, JulePLees.

Bio -

Paul Moelands
Born on the 16th of June 1983, Paul Moelands grew up in Breda, The Netherlands. At early age he got musically interested. It runs in the family cause the family on his fathers side are musicians. Paul started piano lessons and kept at it for a long time.

Primary school ended when the gabber/hardcore music was popular in Holland. This attracted his attention and he got interested in more "modern" music. After buying a few CD's and listening to a local radio station, it was the Mystery Land CD of that time that attracted his attention. It was this 3-CD-compilation, but the third CD wasn't really hardcore. At first he didn't like it, but he started to listen to it more and more. This was probably the predecessor of the actual trance nowadays. It wasn't as fast as Hardcore and it was kind of laidback for that time. A lot of these "trance" albums followed.

This must also have been the time he got into touch with Jan Waterman [SonOfAPitch / Yanave red.] at school. At that time Paul got this wicked Magix Music Maker tool, he toyed around with for some time. Not resulting in total creative freedom, because of the samples, it wasn't really usable. Jan was always listening to Van Diepens Dance Department on Dutch radio and he passed Paul some tapes of it. Rapidly he became very interested in the genre. Together they visited the city buying CD Maxi Singles and the Magik Store, which was founded by Tiesto those days, on Friday afternoons.

2003 meant the "breakthrough" for Paul. Early 2003, his track "Walk away" got sniffed up by Trance.nu, and it was licensed exclusively for the ".Nu Trance Generation" CD, a compilation of up and coming artists around trance.nu. Things were looking up at the time, and Paul really got things going. Fundamental records sniffed up "Waterfall", after discussing with Discover. Waterfall was actually the first "real" release for him, being a milestone in his little producer career.

From then on things got in a hurricane, with the second half of 2003 being the most intense. Paul met Thomas on trance.nu, which started with a clubbing evening in The Hague where Armin played, resulting in a collaboration deal set that night. Octagen & Arizona produced Profound and Starburst a month later in 3 weeks, meeting up 3 times. Having these super positive comments, Paul sent the tracks to Armada, which were instantly interested in licensing.

Various projects and tracks have been signed to various labels, and I did a lot of remixes in the past time. I've released records who have been supported by every big DJ out there, which is really inspiring and motivating.
I've been licensed to quite a lot of exciting compilations. Seeing myself on Marco V, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Tiesto compilations is for me quite an achievement. I'm still amazed when I look at my discography, which has grown silently into quite a big list!

Bio - JulesPLees

At the tender age of 5 Jules was involved in a PLane crash. His entire family was wiped out and he was forced to live in the wilds of the african jungle for 10 years. During this time Jules learned many things. He can fight off a pack of baboons, create fire from bannana skins and do those wierd ear piercings.

At 15 he was rescued from the jungle by Russian bounty hunters. He did finally get back to Australia, but only after those evil men made him perform vile acts. Once back in australia he began building his party poker empire.

It is a little known fact that Jules is actually the founding father of party poker. The characters, ideas and general television coverage of poker was Jules' idea. Unfortunantly this remains a little known fact because his partner ted turner sold Jules out behind his back.

After so much sadness and disapointment in Jules' life there was only one thing left to do - start djing. He bought decks and taught himself how to mix. Since that time he has supported the likes of tiesto, tong, christopher lawrence and nick warren. He has also PLayed at Slinky and Godskitchen. He is also getting a go at this upcoming superclub night 'Obsession'.

so there ya go Jules is full of shit...except the last bit.

Catch Jules PLaying pumpin electro house and a hint of prog trance at his b/day celebs this saturday at become1 @ brown alley.
