RICH GALE - cosmos137 - [PHOBOS ANOMALY rmx] web:-www.richardgalemusic.co.uk

hey guys and girls.

my latest track is at last complete.

its been worked on to the max for a very long time using cubase sl 2.0 because i really wanted to use an old melody i made ages ago and put it into something new.

its been sent to a lot of dj's in this unmastered form and has had a few comments.

marco v said he listens to it in his car. but its too deep for his dj sets...

here it is:-

Hm few things I would change here: Fatter kick sample, another snare, some limitting/compressing your sounds for more fullness. Additional hats.

Hope that helps, cause I think the mix is just too thin now!

-Jay

ps thanks for dropping by at my site

cheers for your reply. the track has had no compression added as yet cos i wasnt sure wether to leave it raw for a master..and i have no idea about mastering. how do i bring up a mastering system within cubase sl2? if there is one.. any ideas or should i buy another program?

hopefull this would improve things and make it sound fuller?

You can compress during mix as well, and keep mastering for later stage.

Look for Isotope oZone 3 plugin, vst use for sequencer and wave editors.

thnx again for your reply.

i usually apply comp to the kick then audio mix down the whole lot. then import the mix down back into a track on cubase. then apply the compression to the whole thing. then play with overall eq...

at the mo i dont use any plug ins. just midi sequencing then sampling what i midi sequence. i dont even know how to control the soft synth vst's via midi!!!!!! i cant find how on the readme. any ideas?

is the mastering plugin you suggested supplied with cubase or is there one supplied thats usable? how do i bring it up on cubase?

Quality isnt good so I dont wanna say "2 much"

yer.. I would like to change kick also.. but.. in good quality with everything this all may go very good.. i would say i like the kick and i dont like - climate is wicked , I like it , but u can do it better , change some stuff.. this is what I think on first listening.. i will listen to it later , maybe i will change my opinion..

cheers!

thanx for your review sheen

when you say 'quality' do you mean the bitrate? or my shoddy workmanship.....

anyway about the kick drum.. what you recon is wrong with it in your opinion?

it sounds nice on a big system. what you recon needs changing to it?

Hi,

This is made in Cubase? Well, if it is, i think the overall soundquality is quite bad. Try to get it more clean.

Now for the track itself:

The goods: Nice melodies, that vocaleffect is cool, that padsound is a good choice, very dreamy pad.

The not so goods : Soundquality is bad, try to get the final mix in Cubase a lot cleaner and then use a masterprogram such as T-Racks.

-The basspattern is very simple, make it more interesting and it has to be much louder in the mix.

-I think that you better use another kick and snare, they are both not that good imo.

-Percussion is a bit chaotic, in the end it gets a bit annoying imo. Try another pattern and remember, sometimes less is better. Also try to experiment with other congasamples, i'm not a fan of the ones u use now.

Well, you have some nice elements, but i hope you can use (some) of my tips to make it better.

-Ron

Hiya mate, just listened to your track now.
Well, there are quite some stuff to edit there IMO, but others have said it well up in here.
I would like to hear some different perc, and maybe a bit more complex bassline?
Keep it up mate

hi there.

thanks for your comments.

romi:- i understand what your getting at with the soundquality.

its probably to do with all the effects im using. probably up to at least five per track of audio cos im trying to make my low powered keybords sound a bit different.... and a lot of the effects are distorsion based which can sound dirty...

also the fact i only use one sample that isnt mine and thats the main vocal.

these two and the fact that the demo is only in 80something kbps probably add to this.

im gonna have to clean my act up anyway

kick is a problem i know but i love the sound it gives on a big p.a
it sounds a bit different....

at the mo all my tracks are unmastered and are just mixdowns. im gonna get a master program soon.

hawk:- thanks for you points. the perc is a problem. it is very experimental and effects based perc. at last i have worked out how to get a thumping kick so ill apply it to this track and previous tracks i have made.

thanks guys
