1210/DJM-300 Sound Quality Issue

Hi

I've recently upgraded from my Numark DJ-In-A-Box belt-drives to 1210's and a DJM-300. I'm using Stanton Trackmaster needles. The new decks are obviously very sturdy, and the mixer is rock solid. But my only gripe is the sound. I've used a few diff needles and the treble and mids seem a bit lacking compared to my cheapo Numark Belt-Drives which seems very odd.

Could someone help me please. Many thanks!

when i upgraded from my numark matrix 3 mixer to my vestax, i could swear that the sound output wasnt as loud as my previous set-up. it sounded cleaner and warmer, but not as loud.

The loudness isn't the issue. Just the sound quality, and I don't really understand why it's like that. Guess I'll do some more tweaking...

the djm mixer to me sounded fine too me and i have the same setup as you. I have an mk2 and an m3d both hooked up to a djm-300 with stanton trackmaster two cartridges. Also i started off with two str8-80s with the same trackmaster cartridges and they sound worse than the techs with the trackmasters. Maybe the counterwieghts are set too high. I have mine set to 2 grams (but thats so i can save my records normally it should be at 3-4 grams) Also with the techs, you are probably now getting better low end frequency response and so the treble and mid is a little less apparent try using the eqs thats what they are there for.

Sorry for the n00b question. But where the hell are the counterweights on the 1210's, and how do I adjust it?

Bloody hell, can't believe I asked that! Never heard them referred to as counterweights lol. Sorry, any other suggestions please?

I swapped my spare 500 needle last night, and the sound is finally a LOT better, so I'm really happy about that. But I know the Trackmasters are better, which means I'm not setting it up right. Cheers for the help so far, much appreciated!

what kind of speaker system are you using i noticed the trackmasters worked well with a rented concert system i performed on. But the stantons sound sucky on my klipsch speakers.

try some new carts or something because they do get worn down with use.
