Nasa's budget is something like less than 1% of the nations total budget if I'm not mistaken....it's amazing that they are able to pull off what they do with such limitations.

Limitations?! That one percent is higher than some countries GDP

Yah, so what?

Posted by metalgearsolid on Aug-18-2005 21:59:

well i am saying they are doing enough when the money they have now. If people wanted to get serious about space then they would increase their budget by LIKE alot. A lot if we seriously want to consider ourselves more advanced and could one day have tourism in space, but that won't likely happen anytime soon

btw they are not pulling things off that the Europeans or Japs or Chinese can't do.

But when you consider how much is asked of them and how much they are a focal point in this country and around the world, versus how much money is actually given to them, it's rather amazing that they accomplish as much as they do. Maybe if they were given a litle bit more from such a healthy money-pool as the one we have, there would be fewer accidents, and even greater results.

To me it seems like NASA is using lots of money for nothing really. Just look at the recent private tries of space missions, they only had a fraction of the budget of NASA but still managed almost as well.

Lots and lots of robotic probes. Mars rovers for instance. Plus each shuttle mission costs a ridiculous sum of money. Spaceshipone reached technical space, it didn't reach orbital altitude or require heat shielding to withstand re-entry.

Just out of curiosity when will our space program be like Starship Troopers? Any one thinks it will be in our lifetime, hopefully not to old to enjoy

when they will find oil on mars with WMD(which would be a threat to earth), lol

but on the other hand, when the war will be over, debt to the budget will be payed, no medicaid, foodstemps, and no housing projects for the low income families, then MAYBE we will consider that.
when will it happen???? never
