Settling in gainesville...

Hey guys,

Yesterday I arrived in Gainesville, FL to study at UFL for one semester. I thought it'd be a nice idea to start posting here to try and meet some ppl from the scene down here in FL!

So far I'm loving this place, still trying to get settled though. it will take me a while to get my stuff sorted out.

Hey hey hey. Ill be going to UF in about 3 days. AFAIK, the electronic music scene there is disgustingly lacking. Simon's plays some type of electronic music one night a week I think. Thats basically it. Sometimes they have top DJs come, but gainesville has this thing about EVERY club legally having to close at 2am. So, its not worth it for most djs to play till 2. fucking cops....

Also, Vibe sometimes has djs come. Edgar V once played there. And Zabiela once played at Simon's.

Haha nice discussion lads. I figured gainesville is not the trancecapital of the world, but thats ok. Some guy said I can probably play at club access (or excess?) sometime soon. any of you wanna come>? I got some HOT promos prolly scare all the nice women away tho!

hey welcome to gainesville! i live in gainesville place (although that prob means nothing to u lol) so as far as a "scene" in gainesville... every now and then someone good will come... zabiela, noel sanger, etc. LTJ Bukem will be at simon's sunday 9/4 and i think dj santana will be playing in ocala (a short drive) sometime in the near future... and every few monthes or so jacksonville (about 1.5 hours north of g-ville) gets some big names... holden, g&d, zabiela, danny howells, and lots more that i can't think of... several of us TA's have had many raodtrips to jax... there's this place called 'platinum' that plays edm on friday nites (they used to, idk if they changed it) and that can be fun, if u don't mind being the only person dancing amongst like 30 people max in the whole place haha... check out e nation for more info on that and other events

we need to have a ta partay since there seems to be a few of us here in gainesville

Nice. Its called "XS" , pronounced like excess. They rarely have any trance or anything but rap or 80s night, so good luck.

yah xs is definitely gay...no edm there, just a bunch of drunk young whores (which makes it kinda cool) but i bet u could get a spot one friday at platinum although about 20 peeps show up...i just graduated from uf in may so i will be up ther plenty this yr for football games and to visit le gf, kelly...prolly run in to u fur sure..get on enation though, there are some cool kids u can meet there that know what the deal is regarding edm in zee ville

ha, Gainesville is really lame for any edm. I lived there for 4 years while going to UF and it was tough not having a club to go and hear good music. Thats where the house parties come in, so throw your own and you'll have a lot more fun. Maybe once a semester a good DJ will make it up there and its worth going out, but forget it any other time.

Welcome to Gainesville, Thomas. The ville should be cranking up with student's back in town and there's usually a lot happening - club or party wise. By the way, you have a pretty decent web page.

thanks all, great replies! I know nobody will wanna hear EDM around here but who cares? if they let me play there, Im inviting 15+ dutchies and if y'all (god u hear that a lot around here ) come over Im sure we'll have a good time. just for laughs.

I only play with cds (although i can always mess around with Technics too ) Tegu (btw I owned one of those babies - if you got your name from the big biting lizards...)

I dont have a US cellphone yet, will get one tomor or monday.

Suzy, thanks I will be in touch with you 2 soon. Im gonna buy a car asap so I can drive up to your place.

Anyway, gimme a little more time to get settled and buy a car, then lets all meet up sometime
