Stop being so overly critical Colibri...we all had a good time...and so did you...thats all that matters...cant expect "The" DJ to always do a 100% now, can you?

musica para bailar ...

i think prog dj's can be fantastic collaborators w|
trance ones and in that sense complement each other
t| temperament of dj's is also very important many
of them are very passive in nature so they don't
mind playing tracks that have nothing to do w|
"dance music" and seem so enjoy far more
conceptualizing and literarily build
nothing remaining at plateau
instead of focusing in
building energy and
magic if i were to have
a venue this is the line up
i would have to ensure a natural
musical dance progression in the dance floor:

10-11: jason oremy
11-12: marco
12-1: kevin saunderson
2-4: deep-dish -- 2 hrs...
4-5: dyk -- 2 hrs only if good he he
5-7: howells -- 2...
7-8: o'bir -- maybe 2
8-?: ken ishi

Did you promise that there'd be no stabbings like his FIRST time here? Talk about a way to turn a DJ off to wanting to return to NYC.

HELL YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOME TRUTH FOR ONCE!!!

Somebody gets it!!!! thank god!!!!!

THANK YOU FRIEND!

This overhyped frowning asshole PVD is so freakin boring!
jesus christ last two times i went to see him i did not see a smile once.... and the fact that he has a labtop right next to him and probably watches porn on it or whatever he does TOTALLLLLY FUKIN ruins the mood.... at least AVB gets into the crowd.... PVD does not know not know how to get the vibe going and present himself to the crowd; his music is old/boring/generic and the same old dance shit.... nothing special....

i have to admit; even i am attracted to the name of "Paul Van Dyk" from all the legendary it comes with from raves stemming back to 1992.... but the person behind the name is a boring performer nowadays; sure there might be a lot to him; hes a talented producer and dj and such.... but whenever i see him he sucks ass; bores me to death..... although i have heard some descent sets by him...

where the hell is the energy anymore PVD? armin still has it!!! even after 200 episodes!

There are two kinds of people on this board... you belong in the second group... with me and my bf as well... but PVD is still good for people who are starting out... hopefully they move on though... anyway I'm in Munich, what a city... what beer!

ANYWAY BACK TO THE BAR

ANYWAY BACK TO THE BAR

OK, i'm going to get backlash for this and to start, I'm not singling out Miss Bliss. Her post was just the straw that broke the camel's back today, but here goes:

You mean the "I hate trance" group on TRANCEaddict? The notion that trance is for the EDM n00bs is pretty elitist and I take a bit of offense to it. I mean, from past posts, I know that i like a lot of the same stuff as you and frost (Zabiela was #3 on my list of DJs this year, Desyn, some Howells, etc.), but I also like the trance DJs because sometimes I don't want bleepity-blippity tracks for 4-8 hours. I feel like both have their time and place. I find it really hard to close out a night at 7-8 AM with a proggy/techy DJ, as I'm usually too mentally exhausted to dance anymore (and I'm getting old). While I can appreciate the music that they're creating, it just isn't energetic enough sometimes. It's like the higher BPM of a trance DJ's set can keep your adrenaline pumping over a longer period of time.

I will add that I was disappointed with the Summerstage set, but I did love the April set at Crobar. As I said in my DJ list post, this was the worst set I've seen from him this year (NYE, Space@WMC, Crobar in April, CP) and I never could get into it completely. There are few sets that I've heard like Amnesia 2002 or Trance Energy 2003, but he has played some great sets even recently.

Sorry to rant and rave, but I got perturbed with this train of thought earlier today when people were telling DOOMBOT that he'd stop listening to trance after he was exposed to more, but that's simply not true in both his case, as he stated, and in mine.

It unfortunate that "our scene" is viewed by the general population as "Techno or Rave Music" because they can't tell the differences, yet we fight with each other over the subtleties that give us the plethora of genres that allow us each to find our own niche for the way we're feeling at the time. It's not like people on here are saying that Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, and the Backstreet Boys kick ass.

Posted by trunks1022 on Aug-22-2005 23:38:

i don't care about genre to be honest. just get me to fucking DANCE. i make fun of doombot only because he glorifies AVB w/o giving a thought to others. i still respect the fact that it's his opinion

BUT

armin in june 05 and twice previously has made me DANCE
danny howells makes me DANCE
ferry has never disappointed and makes me DANCE
sasha makes me DANCE
pvd has made me DANCE
tiesto USED to make me DANCE
zabiela, JZ, the list goes on and on

my personal preferences have shifted towards more prog/electro/breaks recently, but a GOOD trance set once in a while doesn't hurt. actually i've been quite surprised at the decent trance sets (in my opinion of course) that i've heard this year.

Ok you are superior because you dislike trance and like house . its "cool" to like house and "chesee" to like trance

you guys honestly thought it was bad/boring? i'm shocked. that was my second time seeing PvD and it only got better. i thought the show was amazing, including flawless mixing and great track selection. you guys are too critical.

for reference to great track selection, see the politics of dancing 1. this comes nowhere close, and nothing has imo. yeah i'm being critical

Posted by DarkFall01 on Aug-23-2005 19:25:

I think his SS set sucked. Last year was much better. Could be bc I'm not really into Trance anymore, but I thought it was boring, except when he played those few techy tracks. His mixing also went downhill, it wasn't creative and he always did the same transitions. I must say, him playing keys on some tracks was a nice touch though...

Posted by DOOMBOT on Aug-23-2005 19:34:

From what I heard in the 2 hours I was there, from the 3 PvD shows I attended this year this one falls 3rd. Maybe he just performs better in a club setting. Or maybe he was tired. Cubik, CP, then Space in a 2 day span. I'm not gonna knock the guy for it. He still had me jumpin around all over the place at CP and thats all that matters to me. But he still helped prove to me that AvB is still the best.

Posted by Tranz on Aug-23-2005 19:57:

Maybe he was better in the 90s

mike...how could you possibly enjoy the music when the sound system up there entirely sucked....speakers blew and also blew my whole mood....the only thing that kept me happy were all the cool groovanauts heads...downstairs room sounded great....that phazon souns system was fuckin insane...so crisp and clear...pvd was alright...i hate the fact that he started at 6 and only went till 10 because half of the time it was still light out...i started to like it when the lights came one and lasers 2...he should have started at 8..went till 12 or 2...and ditched Miamis dumb ass and spun at some afterparty in NYC like last year for summerstage...if its like this next year...count me out...its just not worth the money and drive....all the gas...tolls, hotels, drugs, trouble...., other than that i luv NYC
