My brother lives in Bermuda and he says that often they have to give jobs to the Islanders first before they can the White people on the Island.......even though they are not as skilled just so to appease laws passed......

although some of these laws were passed for very good reason......the stem the influx of whites upon the Island from taking over......it leaves some employers with a narrow pool to draw from.

We have more than enough minorities now to be sure that the work place would naturally become diverse. And if not then maybe certain "groups" need to address this problem amongst themselves? I have a hard time believing that in most cases these days the truely most qualified person wouldnt get the job. Sadly for the white man, its like fighting an uphill battle now.

2 wrongs dont make a right. I and my generation never did anything to anyone. Why should i be made to feel guilty for things done in the past, many times in a completely seperate society from mine? Why should i be lumped in with past white people just because im white? Isnt that the very basis of what racism is all about?

Stuff like this makes it very difficult for people like me to stay tolerent and accepting when the same respect isnt returned i must say.

One more thing... it makes me sick to hear people in canada mention slavery when canada was the REFUGE for slaves fleeing the US. Im not saying we were the most tolerent place in the past but that arguement makes me want to puke.

what comes to my mind now is "american history x", scene where his father is telling him about his job, how they'll hire someone from minority group even tho he's not the most qualified one.

I guess maybe with a small Island like that and it being a working class people......one of the original ideas was to set up laws so that the colonization of the island could be restricted in ways......Bermuda does not need massive immigration to sustain its people there.......just tourism I would think.......

the Island is quite small and most items even everyday items like soap and toothpaste and stuff is imported because of a lack of mass factories to produce their own goods.......a tax haven for the wealthy and many offshore business set-ups there but not massive commercialization of goods and services......

I am sure most people that have invested money there over in the last several decades would like to see a greater white presence (permanently) as even land has to be offered to Island natives first - but I can see why the Guvernment would like to keep some restrictions in place - otherwise those with money would come in there and control everything and boot people off the Island.....protective rights I suppose....???

the restrictions should be for everyone through immigration, not just whites.

a) research what they are arguing
b) haven't made up their mind 100% before getting all information
c) willing to listen to others arguments
