[Dark Psy]Cybernetika - Combative (192 kbps, full)

Hiya,
just been messing around with some synths + kickass audio destruction plugins (E-Phonic LoFi, SupaPhaser, Gat'R, etc.)... The result is a dark and hard Psy stomper for the night time.
The track is called "Combative" but you can also call it "extreme Phaser&Flanger abuse" :P
I know it's not perfect... I'll continue with it when I got a new comp which can handle more cpu load.

Title: Combative
Length: 7:56
Filesize: ~11MB
Bitrate: 192kbps
Equipment used: Linplug Albino, ReFX Vanguard, Spectrasonics Atmosphere, Sonicbytes Gat'R, dfx Buffer Override, and many more

The link:

Enjoy! Feedback appreciated

Oh yeah...a new track, hah. Will review in a few! =)

Posted by thoughtlessjex on Aug-24-2005 17:34:

A lot of good sounds in this track. Part of it sounded almost like seagulls at the seaside, in a demented, acid trippy kind of way. Good work.

Thanks for the review jex. Interesting comparison with the seagulls... didnt look at it that way. I'm glad you liked it

Unfortunatelly I make a first listen at work (pc soundspeakers) so nothing about mastering for now thought...
Generally I can say that the character of the track and the feeling is really DARK and PSY with tones of power!!

I'll be back after a good listening from my stereo..

Cheers

Ok listening from good system now...
Wow.Amazing kick.Really powerfull.
Bass is also very good. And sound very clear.
Hihat at 0:40 is cliping a little.After 1:20 it's ok
Nice fxs and lfos all over the track.
At 3:56 track become very dark and evil...
4:24 amazing sequencer.Too pitty you cut it so quickly...
Nice vocs samples also!!Ending is very nice too.
Generally I beleive that this track needs a "clic" to become a powerfull dark diamont
For my taste for ex you must use more this amazing vocals samples maybe after quick brakes and use more the sequencer that you have at 4:24.
Anyway I'm sure that when you finish this track everybody will download it.
Cool work m8

Cool track.. that lead sound is really trippy, which is good, but it is a bit fast.

A few things and some suggestions to really make this production shine

- The hihat is on the same beat as the kick in certain parts, try moving it around and see where the rhythm goes. And I'm not very fond of the hihats personally, they're too dry.. when I'm tripping I need the sounds to be smoother, so maybe try throwing a little more reverb on them and see how it sounds.

- Good panning, needs more though! pan pan pan

- Good bassline, it's great for psy.

- Space. This track is way trippy, which is awesome, but it also needs more space. A little more serenity before the hurricane, if you will.

- The flanger/phaser is tricky because it can cause a lot of clipping, and it does slightly in certain parts... definitely lower the volume of the instrument or the phaser fx in those parts where it's clipping (i can hear it quite alot subtely).

kk so good luck, cheers.

Nice track with good athmospheric sounds very progressive and dark like you said. I liked the bassline Low and dark too , but maby synths/sounds need more color to give it the final touch .

Really great dark and mysterious song, it's sound really familiar to me though. I think I've heard the melody before or something really close to it and it's going to bother me until I figure out. Either way it's a pretty good song, didn't really analyze because it sounds so familiar lol.

I think I narrowed it down to a song on Mad Wax's Seventh Day set, but can't find the tune now

Posted by cybernetica on Aug-28-2005 23:03:

Wow! Good comments here
Thanks a lot, DJ Shibby, Sparkunian, Thriller and Formosus.

I agree that this is clipping a little. I always have this problem and I think my speakers are the problem because I sometimes can't hear the problems others are talking about. I also agree that this is lacking something. I think when I can continue working on it, I'll add more percussion and take care of the percussion.
Thanks for the comments anyway Shibby and Sparkunian, those are really helpful

- Would be interesting to know which tune you are talking about, Thriller

I found it now I just have to find the tracklisting for the set, If anyone has that set it's the song that starts right at 25 mins on the first hour. It's not exactly the same, but it sounds close. I doubt you've heard of the guy Cybernetika, but it's a super dark trance set from back in 2001 and it was supposed to be close to Oakenfold's 94 essential mix (Goa Mix Gold and Silver)

Kopi =o.

Nice work mate. Bass and kick are really pumping on this one, I like the combination of the two very much. Good dark stompin psy!

Atmospherics are great and I love the transformers sample. Structure is very deep and involved... one of the things I love most about your tracks.

Just some suggestions.

The synth you drop at 1.32 doesnt feel quite right. Its kinda hard to put my finger on it, but it doesnt feel tight enough. Also, it repeats a great deal. Might be nice to do some automation on it.

In general, the effects are quite noisy. Might be good to constrast this by adding a few that are less distorted here and there. I think this is largely a characteristic of Vanguard though, so maybe try out another vst for a few sweeps/bleeps etc

Nice bassline
The fxes are awsome.
I find the track a bit to loud.
This is really abusing the phasers & flangers haha.
This fits in the middle of a set, it's really powerful.
This is really good
Awsome stuff.
The vocals should have some slight delay and reverb on it.
They are nice but I can't understand what is being said .

Brilliant shit.
10/10

Omer

p.s.
Stop using that rimshot all the time haha.

Thanks for the information, Thriller. Ultra dark sounds interesting to me, gotta find this set and take a listen

Thanks kopi and Axo for listening.
Again a very helpful feedback you gave me here Axo. Now that you pointed things out, I can hear the flaws I haven't heard before

Top feedback here, that's why TA rules

/edit:
And of course thanks to the Darkone as well. Means a lot to me here
Oh, and btw. the sample is again taken from Robocop (lol) ... it says "Smoke?" -"Nah. You know these things will kill you?" -"Yeah. You wanna live forever?"

Posted by The Drow on Aug-29-2005 12:23:

hehe lol

Satan (eek!)

Hard driving madness. Loving every minute of this lobotamy - who needs anesthetics anyways!?

Made me think of a war factory from some horror-video game. I'm somehow travelling towards a radar antennae being pursued by cybernetic zerglings. The vats of water on both sides of the bridge are teeming with unfamiliar lifeforms.

Posted by MegaMan on Aug-29-2005 23:10:

yeah, i've been leesaning your work for a long time
and i like it in general
but you know what i think you're missing? and dont get me wrong
your choons sound ok and all but what they all have in common is they are missing some crazy build ups, and in psy its usually a metal piercing night train that goes through your nerves like a cocaine rock through your veins...
so where were i, ah yes! great work as usual
