Trance vs. Progressive

Honestly, I hate progressive so much !!! It's so boring and it puts me to sleep or in a seriously bad mood. How can anyone get hype of this stuff ? Some PPL love to hear ... 6hrs of pure progressive sets. It reminds me of GINO BEATS. *NO JOKE*

Awhile back ... I went to see Nick Warren@Meow ... he spun progressive *which I didn't know what it was back then* for the first 1/2 of the night. Then he stopped the record and started to spin Trance. It was a wicked set Then the next month I went to see Sasha@Meow ... expecting the same type of set. Next thing you know I was bitchin' all night and very dissapointed b/c I didn't get to hear trance.

*** Don't get me wrong ... a wicked Trance set MUST have some progressive within the set and some trance/progressive breaks to keep it kickin'!!! ***

The ironic thing is ... I've been to System Sound Bar every friday for the last year. (Since Sandra Collin's last Trance set she spun in Toronto.) To support my friends in the VIP room and hang with my best friend .. who likes Progressive over Trance.

I really dislike how 90% of Trance DJs these days don't keep to their roots ... and change what they are spinning. Just because of the mojarity of the crowd likes progressive now. It's all I hear when I hit a club or a party in our city.

In my opinion .... Progressive is not bad at first, but if you don't love it ... (like how you love trance) ... more you hear it ... the more you HATE !!!

I've always loved Trance since I was kid, the first DJ I loved was Robert Miles (Childern), which I was clueless of what type of muzuk it was. At my second party (WEMF99) I walked into the main stage and the feeling hit me again ... and from that day, I knew I love Trance and it will never leave me.

WTF?

here we go again!

Trance vs. Progressive - this has been discussed like over and over and everyone is sick of this subjects so just drop it. I like both BTW. LOL!

Posted by E2EK1EL on Dec-17-2001 05:44:

I didn't know this subject was discussed many times ... I'm kind of new to the board. I've only seen 1 thread about this and it was regarding clubbs in TO not playing Trance anymore.

just cause it's been discussed....
doesn't mean the discussion is ova......

Progressive + Tribal > Trance

Simple equation everyone should live by...

LOL sorry man that dont count for anything here thats just house music.. Im asuming the song is "cant get you out of my head" well if its that then its house some what popy but the beat is nice something to bop your head to and listen to at some top 40s club

SOS2, i think you answered your own question there... you said in order to have a kick ass set, you must have both trance and progressive... now, having more of one than the other is just a matter of personal taste, and i vote for more trance

I always do that ... whenever I make a opinion but any subject,I give both sides a fair chance and see what the final results are.

I vote more Trance also within' a set.
80% Trance
10% Progressive
10% Trance/Progressive breaks

For a kick ass set.

I can't stand a full Progressive set at all. * That brings me back to my first post*

Posted by mute79 on Dec-17-2001 15:57:

totally agree with you there... now if we only had somewhere to hear that kind of a set on a regular basis...

put it this way....she could be singing to polka....and her body and the way she moves it....would still put me in a trance.....

peace

Posted by bluE_Neon on Dec-17-2001 19:26:

progressive trance is da best...i can dance to it all night long, as long it has sense to it the style of musik that Nick Warren spins is progressive, trance and house, plus some breakz
i really dont understand some of you people here...why do u come here and make a thread like this? its really useless, becuase noone will get to the point in here...progressive is trance btw if only you understand it and i dont mean progressive house, but progressive itself were all tranceaddicts, so lets appreciate it
real tranceaddicts listen to every gender of trance and they really love it
bleh...no point describing anymore

*begins waiting for the phone call from Kylie*

PS. Aside from Kylie I also love prog!!! *runs away*

Posted by mute79 on Dec-17-2001 19:38:

well for me personally, i can listen to progressive when i'm home or chillin, but at a club, i dont like it at all... now theres some really good progressive trance that kicks ass, but it lacks that energy that epic and uplifting tracks have that make me move... so i'm not dissin progressive at all, im just sayin that for me it's place isnt at a club...

Posted by Viceroy on Dec-17-2001 20:09:

For me....it was a gradual progression from trance to progressive. When I first started listening to this music...I was on a trance kick for a very long time. EPIC EPIC EPIC! That is all I wanted to hear. Then...I dunno....I just started to hear sounds in the progressive beats that hit a different chord inside of me. Don't get me wrong, I still love epic, but not as much as I used too.

I think for me, progressive is the next step in the evolution of trance music. All of my cd's in my car are progressive...and all the records I buy now as well are progressive.

I just go to what my ears like to hear

Peace,
Steve

Shame / Disagreement

Ok people ... these discussions are very pointless cause they are all about one's TASTE (which changes with time ... i know this cause i am in the scene since .. oooh god knows ... begining of 90's), it leads no where so just drop it.

(this may be irrelevant)
Everyone tries to be technical or mister know it all about things ... and what the problem is, is that these people usualy tend to be so called newcomers ... if someone is to be technical or whatever it should be someone like me ... but i am not and i've never been nor should anyone else ... it's stupid... just enjoy in what you like and "share it" with others.

Everyone has their own prefrence like i do, progressive .. Later.
(oliver lieb all the way )

As for me...

As for me, I love UPLIFTING that caries Energy in it. Especially in nightclub, oh my, that drives me sick, ....progressive make me sleep.

Sometimes i stick to progressive trance, when I need to fall asleep fast, Progressive is the one that does it.....

Too much of progressive feels like boring instructor that talks with monotone voice for 2 hours non stop......The whole class is usually sleeping.

I am listenning to Johan Gielen lately, i think he does prety good job mixing Up. and Prog. together.

Posted by Swamper on Dec-18-2001 00:00:

haha...

If ya notice - whenever I put up singles that are progressive they get the lowest rankings...

...I don't get some ppl...

Posted by StereoPrincess on Dec-18-2001 01:35:

i would think that trance would be better to listen to at home and progressive at a club because to trance you can just chill but prog has a strong beat to it.

I agree that Progressive does have a strong beat to it... So strong, it drowns out the music, in fact in most progressive songs, it nearly completely replaces the music.

But, I disagree about trance being for home/chill listening. I can't find much to dance to in house music, but with trance, there's several rythms, and melodies, along with the beat to dance to.

TRANCE is Music with a beat, House is a beat with some music.

Posted by JHN416 on Dec-18-2001 02:50:

I agree with danilo on this one. It's all about taste. There's really no point in having a Progressive vs Trance thread but it's definitley cool to see who's into what.

For me, I still like trance the best but it's a lot harder to find now. A lot of the progressive tracks out now are kind of dull (for lack of a better word). It's not so much music you can dance to but good chill music to listen to at a cafe or something.

Basically, if I want to party, I want TRANCE. If I want to chill, Progressive is the choice for me.

We can beat this thread to death if we want to...

Confused I never really understood this!!!!!!!

What the is everyone talking about?? u say TRANCE & PROGRESSIVE as if they are 2 seperate musical genres entirely!! Progressive is a type of Trance...(eg. Progressive Trance, dream trance, epic trance, melodic trance, uplifitng trance, vocal trance, eurotrance, hard-trance) it's all trance......just different "versions" so to speak. I personally prefer the epic, uplifting, dream trance....but I also love alot of vocal and eurotrance. Don't get me wrong... I like my fair share of progressive... I just prefer the former.

U can't just say progressive....cause they also have progressive house.,progressive rock...etc.

I agree. It annoyed me at first, and I guess it still does, but I've learned to deal with it.

I love what was originally classified as Progressive Trance, which as far as I knew was kind of a cross between Epic, and Vocal and Euro. But when I went to a club that was spinning `Progressive'. It ended up being just a drum beat, hence house. So I now assume that when people refer to progressive, they are referring to progressive house. Unless Progressive Trance has decided to lose it's `trance' element, and therefore become simply `progressive'.... Maybe that's the explanation....
