Wink **updated**[TECHTRANCE] the problem with london(160kbps)bassline and eq tweek

this is now eq'd better with better compression so its fuller i think.

bazzline has been added aswell. (follow same link

here is my most recent piece.

techy trance. close to finished but advise needed... ***edit*** (and followed)

using a new kick sample i made after having my other tracks kicks grilled on many occasions here...

bassline/lead is one of my favourite bits.

http://www.freewebs.com/richardgalemusic/media.htm

(the problem with london)

im having problems with one of my vst's.. 'chopper' on cubase sl2.0

it seems to be making a clicking sound whenever the effect is set to square or trangle wave... is there any way round this?

the effect is applied to the main bassline/lead.

hope you enjoy...

wow
don't really know what advice to give
this track is pretty cool. LOVE the bassline
really nice work baby

excellent stuff! I've heard that melody somewhere before though. Have you posted this track up previously, cos I know I've heard it somewhere?

Anyway, great techy sound. Everything is very phat and balanced perfectly. Those pads contrast well with the rest of the tune.

Nice stuff

Posted by richg101 on Sep-01-2005 10:19:

i have posted this up about a month and a half ago...

but it was in a very early stage. with minimal tracks etc. i think you may have commented on it.

thanks for both your kind words guys i think it needs somthing else to make it more energetic though. any ideas? and still that clicking is annoying me... maybe it doesnt show up on 160kbps.

cheers again.

haven't listened to much tech trance, i think it begins a tad slow.
but when the melody kicks in @ 1:53 things start to get interesting.

that crumpled hihat really does sound distorted, is it supposed to be like that?

3:23, i didnt mind that little bit before the melody kicked back in.

i think its a tad repetitive for my tastes, but then again, i haven't heard much tech trance before so im not sure what to expect, meter wise or production wise.

anyway, keep up the efforts.

not my cup off tea.. but u could add more sounds and melodies to make ur track a bit more interesting..

add a sub bassline just to power up the track a bit.. ur current arpeggiator sounds good.. but a bit empty..

i dont like the clap.. u could add a more powerfull one.. that will make the track sound more energetic

keep it up!

anig: i know what you mean about it being slow at the beginning. im not very good at building up a track at the start. any ideas? i kind of like the fact that it suddenly get going after quite a boring intro...

distorted clap... its a clap with a distorted smash on top of it. im not sure whether to leave this in or not.

also i dont really know what to label this track as. its kinda trancy but im influenced by some techno also. i have only worked properly with production since last year so production wise my work is lacking. i could also do with an access/nord lead

djcyborgx: i know what you mean about it needing a sub bassline. ill do that asap cos after listening to it loud it lacks that warmness a good low bass will provide.

thanks guys.

I love the subtleties at the beginning... then again, it's probably because of my interest in ambeint.

Arpeggiated bass... my goodness, what a bassline we have going here. The melody with the subtle pad is fairly slick. The kick sounds too much like a heartbeat to me - then again, I'm not sure what to recommend for an alternative other than something a little more crisp.

3:30 - wow... this style is more symphonic than trancy to me, and I love it. They are so spacy and dreamy - they make me think of something mystical, yet urban at the same time - fog. It's not exactly club-ish, but it's still powerful, and I enjoyed that passage very much. Thanks for sharing.

hey four_on_four-er.

cheers for the nice comments.

i put the arpegiated bass together when teachin someone the basics of cubase. and now im tryin to make a use for it in a club track. my problem is that i mostly enjoy producing 'living room' trance and cant get that club 'drive'. i guess i need a good subbass to develop more drive and get the groove going in the track.

kick is a funny one.. i never seem to be able to get it right. i think i need a good kick sample to start with.

i really aprieciate your words. i think im gonna work on getting it more bangin...

I can hook you up with alot of good kick samples if you e-mail me at [email protected]. There's even a drum machine that you can use called Hyperion Stomper that you can use to make your own samples if you're good at that (Free! at http://www.lysator.liu.se/~zap/stomper/index2.html). (if you e-mail me, be sure to make the subject obvious)

The intro is pretty okay, I dont really like the kick sounds a bit annoying actually. It has a really dark feeling. I really love the melody, that's awesome... The tune needs some more percussion in my opinion. The arrangment is good. The sound quality could be a bit better though. Nice tune but nothing reall special except for the melody. 6 out of 10 for me. But keep it up, feedback is the best support you can get

sound quality is a problem. i think it could be because of the effect applied to the melody. its called 'chopper' and really quickly chopps the sound in a square fashion which makes a clicky sound. i dont know how to over come this. anyone encountered this?
its a built in vst insert that comes with cubase sl/sx 2.0 called 'chopper'...

HEy m8,

Do you know were I can get a demo of that VST, cause then I can sort it out for you I've had the same problem once in FL but for FL is now piece of cake. So if you can hook me up with a demo, I'll help you fix the problem and you can transform the 6 into a 7

Posted by richg101 on Sep-02-2005 18:10:

not sure... i know its bad and unfair on poor old steinberg but you could try and get hold of a cracked version of sx3.. someone told me he got hold of a copy on the net that didnt need the usb key...

the effect is on this version i think.

other than that i could try and extract the vst from cubase and put it up for you to download. any idea how id do that?

i need to be able to adjust the square wave so its a hybid of a square and a sine wave( a square wave with slightly rounded edges). this would smooth the edges of the effect but the sharpness would go slightly. i might look for a vst that could do this...

any more feedback before i start changing stuff around?

should i ditch the kick or keep it?

Posted by Redstar on Sep-04-2005 15:45:

keep working on it, i like this. even tho my style is uplifting, i might be tempted to throw this in my sets

Posted by richg101 on Sep-05-2005 09:56:

redstar: if you play it id love to hear how it went down. dj'in is a bit quiet at the mo so i hav nt played it out yet..

keep me posted and ill try and get a high bitrate to you if you want..

Yes, it sounds good for what it is , Rich...good stuff

Not unlike "Fashion Slam" or the new "Fuego Caliente"

Maybe I'll take a crack at it..I've never really done fast arp'd basses in great detail...

Keep up the pace.

FOOOOOKING KILLER BASSLINE! VERY NICE. (enough caps). its almost like minimal tech-trance. i like this. although i dont like the clap. a little flimsey and weak.

awesome

Posted by richg101 on Sep-07-2005 09:00:

cheers for the comments guy's :0)

eau: thanks! to be not unlike a m.i.k.e production is a great success for me! i dont think im there yet tho

i cant even remember which notes i layed down before i arp'd it..

the bassline was a fluke while showing someone the basics of cubase!

i just time streched the track so its now 145bpm and added a sub bassline. im gonna send it to cally and juice today... cos it sounds pretty mental at that speed

ill put it up on the ta when i have time.

cheers again!

Posted by richg101 on Sep-08-2005 23:29:

Nice bassline, and the melody as well <=pro sounds..i think the clap and the kick..<= unpro sounds

Posted by richg101 on Sep-08-2005 23:45:

thanks for the reply

this bloody kick im using is killing me. i just cant get the kick right on any of my tracks! does it lack punch? or is it not deep enough?

any tips on getting that driving beat?

Posted by MrPit on Sep-08-2005 23:57:

try to layer manny kick drum samples. A quick tip is choosing one kcik sample with enough "whoom" frequencyes, u must filter high frequencies from it. Then, chooos another kick sample with some mid frequencies, u must filter the low frequencies as well... combine thoose samples...tweak some eq, and you're the man!
