I think it's because people keep wearing out the existing genres. So now the cycle is starting over again and we're back to the 70s... (I predict a resurgence of 80s style music within the next 5 years)

I agree. I noticed a big 80s revival a couple of yrs ago. It seems as if 80s music became mainstream cool again.
