Talking FIGO wins footballer of the year

According on cnn.com.......winner of footballer of the year is Figo from Real Madrid........Beckham came in 2nd and Raul comes in 3rd.

Watcha think of it.....does FIGO really deserve it......i'm interested to hear your opinions.

I agree with you FASTDJMP3 the FIFA World Player of the year award is a joke. Michael Owen should of finished at least in the top 3 of World player of the year if he won European player of the year, or maybe should of won it. As for Beckham, all because of that free kick out of 34 free kicks against Greece he finishes second. The England Vs Greece match showed how England struggle without Owen (he was injured at that time). Owen scored 2 goals in the FA cup final against Arsenal and a hat trick against Germany (which changed England's fortunes around and was the REAL REASON for England topping the group). Undoubtedly he is the best striker and finisher in the world. Beckham may work hard for England but for man united he is nothing. Owen did it both for club and country. Its just disgraceul the voters have been pricks and took limited notice of what Owen did in the year of 2001. Looks like the voters voted on what Figo did in 2000 and Beckham did in 1999. These voters seem to take their sources from past years, not the same year!

do u know the french magazine FRANCE FOOTBALL ? well they gave the GOLDEN BALL (ballon d'or which is the second most important award after that lame fifa one) to Owen !!! and it's the people who vote not the stupid coaches at a ceremony

Figo is a lazy over-rated gimp, he shouldn't even be playing football

Angry

I think that the best player of the year was Beckham or Owen. Top 5 Players: Beckham, Owen, Rivaldo, Zidane and Veron.

Posted by milanster on Dec-23-2001 07:04:

haha that is so stupid..screw all 3 of them!

i think its tough to decide who deserves the first place...
i havent seen any extraordinary players this year! or atleast not one player have shown any great performance!

luis figo is an over-rated player who always seems to be lost somewhere on the field!

Posted by fastmp3 on Dec-23-2001 07:09:

he's a fucking treator who left barca for real , screw him bad

Posted by milanster on Dec-23-2001 07:16:

yupp! wtf was the guy thinking when he left barca for madrid?

Posted by jlosada on Dec-23-2001 11:16:

Raul should have win this award.

But, anyway I am happy is a Real Madrid player too.

FIGO left Barcelona because is better payed in Madrid. That's all!

Posted by Xavier on Dec-23-2001 11:32:

Figo's transfer just shows that there is no longer loyalty to clubs in football. Movin to the rival club shows that footballers are just caring about money. Anyways...there's heaps of players last decade that played for BOTH Barca and Real Madrid. eg: Luis Enrique, one of the laudrup brothers, Hagi

People, if an enterprise makes you an offer to work and it is better payed than where you are now workin, will you move?

If I was him, I would've moved for sure... for a considerable amount of extra $$$, of course.

But then again, Figo is a great player, very talented, and I think he deserves the award (ok, start flaming me now...)

But all the props for Raul, for making it to top 3, cuz he is the champ! I love that kid...

Posted by Xavier on Dec-24-2001 08:18:

Say if you either played for Celtic or Rangers and your playin with one club and the other Glasgow club offers heaps money to pay you and you know the tension between the fans as they have that 'sectarian' rivalry. And imagine everytime you score a goal you celebrate by kissin your jersey. And the fans chant your name. There are some things in football money cant buy and to me fans chantin your name is priceless. And then you make that move to Rangers...which is more than a nightmare for celtic fans its the one of the worse scenarios ever.

Posted by jlosada on Dec-25-2001 13:01:

This assumption is valid only if the player is scottish. In the case of Barcelona and Real Madrid, the assumption is valid only if the players are of Barcelona or Madrid (i.e. Luis Enrique is from Asturias)

I think that Figo is the best player in the world. Say what you want about the Barca -> Real move.. I mean, hes so much more consistent than all the others. Beckham, veron, ZIDANE anyone?? ZZ is the best when hes at it , but look at how often he went through matches almost unnoticed at Juventus..

I wonder why they even have these two awards? one would be enough..

figo singlehandedly held real up this season.. especially after their 'great' start.. ok ok maybe raul had something to do with it too, but...
