Underworld - Born Slippy
I just happened to read the lyrics for the first time to born slippy. I had never really listened to them before. Someone clarify, is he talking about a boy or a girl? Is this another pedophile song ? (Timo Mass - Pictures
) hehe
| quote: |
| Drive boy dog boy dirty numb angel boy In the doorway boy she was a lipstick boy She was a beautiful boy and tears boy And all in your innerspace boy you had Hands girl boy and steel boy you had Chemicals boy Ive grown so close to you Boy and you just groan boy she said Comeover comeover she smiled at you boy. Let your feelings slip boy but never your mask boy Random blonde bio high density rhythm blonde boy Blonde country blonde high density You are my drug boy youre real boy speak to me And boy dog dirty numb cracking boy You get wet boy big big time boy Acid bear boy babes and babes and babes and Babes and babes and remembering nothing boy. You like my tin horn boy and get wet like an angel. Derail. You got a velvet mouth youre so succulent and beautiful Shimmering and dirty wonderful and hot times On your telephone line and God and everything On your telephone and in walk an angel. And look at me your mom squatting pissed in A tube hole at tottenham court Road I just come out of the ship Talking to the most blonde I ever met. |
iirc the original born slippy didn't have the vocals in, the 1996 version did & they were (if im not mistaken) written specifically to fit in with the trainspotting movie, so thats probably where they're from.
the lyrics are about Karl Hyde (singer of underworld) problem with alcoholism
when the track got big and the track was used a drinking song (because of the "lager, lager, lager" hook) karl became pissed
I was always under the impression it was about masturbation.
And it wasn't re-written for the Trainspotting soundtrack.

Yeah, but the .NUXX version was out before Trainspotting. It wasn't tailor-written for the film, as your first post suggested.
This tune is a classic, plus i never knew there was a non vocal version
did Underworld do any other realeases rather than " Born Slippy " or is that the only production they did?

I'm curious as to if there is anyone out there who does not like this song.
I think it's overplayed and needs at least a short burial. Probably 80% of the shows I've been to, this song has been played on the decks. Every DJ seems to feel that they can throw it on at any time and fill the floor with it. I would love to be able to go to a live venue and not hear this song for a change. The constant playing of it has really made me hate the song and the worship of it by those who then turn and mock others for their worship of an "equivilant" song screams of hipocracy.
I love bashing this song because I know so many people hold it dear

Underworld have been making music for atleast the last 13 years. They released an album in 2002, Underworld 1992 - 2002, get the tracklist from that if u want the crop of their work.

almost all the "remixes" of the nuxx mix is a fucking joke imo, especially, those made by tranceproducers, they loved that melodic breakdown and that melody but hated hard techy part, infact, for me it's the opposite, it's the main techy part which is the good thing with the track. ever since pvd took it upon himself and do his "remix" of born slippy.nuxx trance producers have followed the same road, i mean, all paul ever did was to chop of the techy part and apply his own wimpy trancefluff beat instead of it.
the only remixes that aren't like that is Darren price's remix (it was on the 1996 release along with his remix of the original born slippy) which has a cool deep soundscape and a nice stuttery 4/4 beat and Atomic Hooligan's wicked breaks remix which was done i think by taking the track and reconstructing it. Atomic hooligan played more with the original song structure, he uses the melodic breakdown in a nifty way, since he already kick started the vocals before the breakdown he lets the vocals go on while some vocal filtering is going on in the background.

I think the reason that it had been so heavily remixed and why DJ's so often include it is the same reason the New Romantics get ceaselessly remixed, because its nice to add a little tangible depth to a set, something with a little meaning no matter the mood your in.
Hey all,
I was gonna post a question with regards to this tune but found a posting about it already...
I just bought the Nuxx 2003 remix, the piano riff on the A side is interesting but gets a bit boring after a while. Still, it's better then Paul Oakenfold's effort on the B side.
Anyway, and please don't bash me, is there a better quality trance mix of this tune? I've heard PvD's version on one of the live mix sets, and was wondering if this was a bootleg or was it ever released?

This track never seems to get boring. DJ's even play it at the beginning of a set (Kai Tracid at Q-Base)
