Focusrite Saffire FireWire Audio Interface
I was just scowering MusiciansFriend.com and came across this thing. It's brand new and it sounds good. I just need something that I can use to power monitors to record my DJ sets that I'm saving up for, but before I can use those monitors I need a Firewire Audio Interface like this one. IS this overkill or does it have everything someone would need to have good sound for recording, editing and maybe even some producing and remixing in the future?

if all you are doing is gonna be running in 2 channel audio (to record sets) and 2 ch out (to monitors) yes this is DEFINITLY overkill.
for remixing and producing, dont worry too much about pre-amps. internal mic pres dont sound real great. youd wanna get a nice tube pre anyways. and most of the time you arent running that many inputs and outputs.
dont get me wrong, focusrite make very very nice equipment. i love their pre-amps, and this is a great interface, but you could easily get away with a firewire solo from m-audio. now if you are going firewire for its higher bandiwdth and therefore lower latency, id go this route:
E-MU PCMCIA interface
i usually dont like E-MU products since they are made by creative and think you get better sound from M-Audio, Lexicon, Pre-sonus, or Focusrite, however, this little thing looks bad-ass.
it has an on-board DSP, 192khz, and ZERO latency monitoring
Thanks the advice Vero. I am definitely looking into Firewire, because of the some to zero-latency and the superior product. I have also been looking at this one from M-Audio. It's only 199.99, so a bit less money than the Focusrite Saffire. Here's the link.
M-Audio FireWire Audiophile Computer Recording Interface
yeah thats a good one too. I personally use a m-audio firewire 410. the audiofile you mention is basically a slimmed down version of the 410. good quality, really love mine. i think that is a good piece of hardware for ya, that wont break your bank.
