Urgent: Lots of Lighting info needed
hi guys,
I've scored my first proper gig..... 100+ people...
:s
Umm... yeah, i'm already renting out a good set of CDJs and a better mixer than my Numark, and I'm about to download and read the manuals for them...
The only problem i have is that i'm also responsible for organising lighting...
the place is supposed to be around 30mX30m (900ftX900ft)(someone's estimates)..... I will be playing mostly Asian Dance, people organising the gig will be giving me heaps of CDs of the music they want me to play at their gig, abotu a week prior, so i can get used to it, and practice it.
I've been doing a lot of research on lighting, and DMX controllers etc. I prefer to use lights that don't need a DMX controller, as it seems a little too much for a first gig. I prefer lights that automatically adapt to the music, it saves me effort setting up etc. However, i am prepared to learn more about DMX lighting, and will certainly rent it out, if u guys recommend it...
THe only problem i have, is trying to decide HOW MUCH lighting i will need to hire out, and also any EXTRA gear. None of the tutes seem to mention if I need extra stuff, like special ciruit breakers or something. They don't mention anything abuot stands etc.
I'm not sure about how to set up lights up high, near the cieling with stands. I'm worried people will bump into them or something...
sorry guys, i'm a total noob when it comes to this. I have about 1.5 weeks to get ready and hire stuff out... The gig is 10 days after that...help me out.
PLEAAASEE!!! THANKS GUYS!!
hmm i feel your pain, when i had my biggest house party we had about 200 people there and we were going all out on it so we decided to rent lights
they hung from the rafters of my patio, so on the celing and they were all hooked up to some sort of lighting console which automated themn, seemed pretty cheap, but the guy hooked it all up and everything so it was cool. we also had a couple stobes and a fog machine..
for 100 people you wont need thaaaat many lights, just enough so that when they are all going the whole place is lit.
30mX30m isnt too big, so you shouldnt need to worry too much, i suggest getting the full details about the venue and head down to a shop with a rough floor plan of it and heading down to the guys who rent lights out. usually they are pretty knowledgable about these sort of things, but dont let them trick you into getting something you dont want.
