Tranceport 1 and Magik 6 - any better complete albums for a trance newbie?
can you think of any better MIX albums than Oakey's Tranceport and Magik 6 if you were going to try to define modern Trance to someone who's never been into it, and trying to get them to like it/hear the best
(Out there and back would be the best producer CD)
I would also try...
DJ Tiesto - In Search Of Sunrise 2 <<< has good memories for me
Johan Gielen - Recorded <<< nothing special but i love it
Armin Van Buuren - 002 Basic Instinct <<< Especially Disc 2
enjoy
Paul van Dyk - Seven Ways
Paul van Dyk - Out There And Back
Clubber's Guide to Trance
BT - Ima
BT - ESCM
Paul Oakenfold - Resident Cream
All the best trance from the good 'ole days
Paul Van Dyk - Politics of Dancing. Nuff said
Yeh I would say have a listen to The Politics of Dancing by Paul Van Dyk... especially cd 2. Awesome cd!! You should try some of the live sets by the big name djs too... one of my faves is Paul Van Dyk live at the Gatecrasher Summer Sound System 2001.
I gotta agree with you on that PVD's Politics of Dancing CD... great stuff! And even tho I didn't really like the 1st CD when I first heard it, more times I hear the more I love it... it is like a chillout intro into the 2nd CD, which is just amazing!
And for any other albums, try Tiesto's "Summerbreeze"... And "In Search Of Sunrise 1 & 2" are great too!
Any of tiestos old cds... check out his "Live at innercity". Ferry corsten live at innercity is good too now that i think about it.
yeah, i know all this stuff, have most of it
im just debating here
what is THE definitive trance mix CD?
i say the first tranceport and magik 6
(resident is not far behind, but its a double cd, so that's cheating)
sorry but...
Magik 7
Tiesto - Magik 5 - Heaven & Beyond
Rank 1 - Live at Sensation 7.7.01
Tiesto - Live at Dance Valley
errr
personally, i think Tranceformer 2000 defines Trance very well. the tracklisting may slightly be considered Cheezy nowadays but, majority of the tunes on those 2 cds are classics... CD 1 is mixed by Mauro Picotto and Cd 2 is compiled by Lange.

Trance Nation, by Ferry Corsten (on MoS) I would say is the most definitive old-skool uplifting trance record of all time. He's just created a totally spectacular vibe throughout it, that none of the subsequent TN compilations ever came close to.
I've got Magik 6 & 7, Tranceport and the In Search of Sunrise records, but TN moves me more than any other I've found so far. Haven't got Politics of Dancing yet though
PvD - Politics of dancing = WAAAAAAY MONEY
Tranceport 1, Magik 6, Oakey's Voyage Into Trance is a good one..
PvD - Out there and back
hmm, thats all i can think of right now.

Tranceport 1 is a classic, but my personal favourite is Seb Fontaine's Prototype 1 CD2. It's completely different from Seb's other stuff and an awesome awesome trance set. Listen to it a couple of times and you'll be hooked. BTW,I gave it to a friend who has no clue about trance and he loved it.
Another excellent one is Armin Van Buuren - Boundaries of Imagination
only the best

this is outragous
the poll for which is the best CD, magik 6 or tranceport
i had no idea that was there, but it was crazy to see that i picked the exact same 2 mixes
by, the way, just to break tradition, i'll vote for Tranceport
I'm thinking of making my own mix SPECIFICALLY designed for someone who's never heard trance (or even electronic music) before to try to convert people... I started it and so far I've got Robert Miles - Children (Dream Version) mixed into Onephatdeeva - In and Out of my Life (Quake Vocal Mix) and now I'm just trying to decide where to go from there... I've already got a ton of tracks planned out... just deciding on the order to mix them in is the hard part. I wouldn't mind getting a few more catchy club trance tunes. I think this mix has to be a little on the cheesy side (definately at times) to keep people interested.
I chose "Children", well cuz it's a classic and a good track to start a mix with, and I chose "In and Out of my Life" cuz it has lyrics, so it's a little bit more like a song, but still a killer track with good builds... still one of my faves. I'm trying to make this mix very "newbie" friendly... something a newbie might enjoy on their first listen and be like "wow, I gotta check out more of this trance stuff". Tranceport didn't do that for me right away... I mean I didn't really like it that much on my first listen, but after a few more listens I started loving it... and I've never really liked Magik 6 or any Tiesto CDs for that matter. Too cheesy for me now, but maybe I would have liked that when I was still a newbie. I never listened to Tiesto when I was still a newbie.
Anyways, gotta jet...
