Sasha + Digweed

Arn and I were talking about this the other day and we came to one conclusion: Why not? Why do we get PvD at Central Park? Armin? Tiesto? Ultra? And not S+D. I can't imagine the head count being less than any of those others. It's not like they aren't marketable. So why haven't they been in CP? Someone needs to get that shit done. Or give me a good reason why it shouldn't happen or wouldn't work...

OK, I might be in the minority, but musically, I don't really like the CP shows. I like seeing all of you there, and it's great for bringing everyone out, but the ground isn't level enough to dance well (look, i like a flat floor). Also, all of the shows starting too damn early. I don't really like parties during the day. The exception was Ultra in Miami, that was fun, but we still didn't arrive until 4 pm. I thought Armin in daylight sucked there, and I usually like him. Tiesto was awful and PvD was the worst that I've seen him in 4 shows this year. I think lighting has a lot to do with it.

That said, Sasha and Digweed would be even worse. When they did the afterparty in Miami, which is the only time that I've seen them together, the dark "crack den" aspect had its appeal. They were playing really dark stuff that night, and you just can't have that on a bright sunny evening. They're not that kind of duo. I mean, when have you seen Sasha and Digweed and said that it was "the most uplifting, optimistic set I've heard." To me, they're just not like that. Sasha on his own could be uplifting, but Digweed is the dark, yin aspect (to take brian's analogy from the sasha v. digweed thread) of that duo. Maybe I'm wrong, and people who have seen them together more will correct me, but that's my opinion at this point.

So to close, yeah, it could be done and I'd probably go if it did, but I don't think I'd like it as much as seeing them at Spirit, Crobar, or Roxy for the same length of time at night

i saw them at dance valley in 2004. the valley, the sunny day, the music provided by sasha and digweed all went together really well. actually my avatar is my friend and i main stage, with digweed spinning in the background. seeing as they have probably spun at every festival between the two of them, i'm sure they know how to play it out for a sunny day at central park.

Mindy, Christina said Digweed choked at Dance Valley. He just walked off stage and let Sasha take over.

When are you coming back to party with us again.

BTW, I do disagree with her about our party perceptions sometimes, cuz I thought the PvD set was great from Nature One (though my experience was with a recorded set, not live)

Yup... someone's gotta get it done. There was a thread a while back with a Sasha and Digweed video from that outdoor party they threw in Argentina. How incredible was it when they dropped that sugar lips song in the pouring rain? We need something like that...

...and don't mention pvd in the rain... cheese and water don't mix.

well instead of talking to us about it, why don't u send their managers or bookings agents an email and ask them to organize a show @ CP

and if there is alot of us behind it then it might make a difference

That video was awesome. When it starts raining... wow.

As for bringing a crowd i think Sasha Digweed would have no problem. I remember i think it was my first time in Crobar and Sasha Digweed were there and it was the most packed i've ever seen a club. People had no place to even stand so the stairs were lined up with people just standing 5 rows wide and it was almost impossible to move around anywhere. I was like wow this is some club!!!

I agree though i have a hard time picturing them doing the central park gig (although i would love it). I can picture someone like armin doing it who could play a set full of crowd pleasers that people can cheer for and sing along to.

At the same time, darkness and sunlight don't mix either. That video was done in the rain, you can't schedule for that, it's just an amazing phenomenon. And it was done at night, which was kind of what I was getting at with my post.

I don't disagree with it bringing in a crowd. PvD brought the crowd, too, and that party musically sucked.

My point is this: I don't dig Paul van Dyk. I don't dig Armin van Buuren. Arn agrees with me. There are a TON more in the city of New York that feel the same. Whether the show would suck or not is not the point I am getting at. I'll worry about that after the show is over. The main point is... why only trance artists? Why not Sasha and Diggers? Why not two of the greatest pioneers in the genre? Why are the non-trance lovers getting the shit end of the stick here? It can't be because the promoters will think the show will "not work because of daylight." They don't care about that. They want to make money. And... they would make money if S+D were booked.

OK, I know based on my previous posts, this may come as a surprise, but not everything is based on commercial success. If Sasha & Digweed didn't give a shit about the general perception of them, then maybe they should do this. I mean, it's right outside Sasha's apartment's backdoor. The point is, that as much as I like a sellout show sometimes (like my new Matt Darey CD), this is not for Sasha & Digweed.

And no shit, Made would make money on this show, just as they made tons of money on Diggers last week at Spirit. They made lots on PvD, Tiesto, and Armin @ CP. Would you like to add Sasha & Digweed to the list of Central Park sellouts (those DJs who play to big crowds, but don't deliver as big as the crowd warrants). I mean, I love both Armin and PvD (Tiesto needs to have his hearing checked or learn to mix, as him at CP was the worst EDM event that I have EVER attended), but I just suspect the same sort of disaster occuring. Maybe that's just my negativity shining through.

Posted by Shamez214 on Sep-11-2005 01:42:

Exactly. You are just being negative here. And it's not like one bad show would kill their reputations anyway. I would just like to even have the chance to see them suck at Central Park.

Re: Sasha + Digweed

S+D = $120,000 a night or more..
PVD is garbage and only $60,000 a night..
Pick a winner.. (hint: spend less and get same profits)..

EXACTLY the point, getting sasha AND digweed to play at the same time would be amazing in central park, but i think it would be much harder to book and pay for sasha digweed than pvd or armin....much easier said than done.

Posted by minneec on Sep-11-2005 04:10:

come to think of it, i saw sasha free at chelsea piers for part of mtv's vma's back in 2002. he rocked. of course i think people there were more interested in my lady peace before and moby after...

Posted by Choobak on Sep-11-2005 08:32:

wait.. so when S+D were booked at crobar it cost $120k? how the hell did they make any money when they played together at fundacion?

are we sure we're not inflating dj costs here?
