weird...

ok, i can be a bit of a hypochondriac, but it's those damn websites like webmd.com and commercials! "if you have (insert symptom) you might be suffering from heart disease and should talk to your doctor immediately"

*GASP* "OMG, I have that symptom!"

no but on a more serious note...i've been having some weird symptoms and i'm trying not to freak out. i get numbness in my arms and legs and "tingling" feelings. and my limbs fall asleep very easily...i don't even have to be leaning on my arm/leg or sitting weird...just laying down normally and i'll get woken up because my arm is so dead i can't even feel it and i have to like get up and shake it off in the middle of the night.

and about 5 years ago, i had this really weird episode where i got out of bed and my legs were all tingly (NOT asleep, just kinda weak feeling) and i was walking to the bathroom and my legs just completely gave out from underneath me and i fell. i laughed at myself and got up and then it happened again. my legs were like noodles. it was very strange.

anyway that was a long time ago, and since then i haven't had any real bad episodes until last weekend. i was driving home late at night from miami and all of a sudden i got this intense "vibrating" sensation in my left hand, but mostly in my finger tips and it was moving down into my arm too. it was in my other hand too shortly after. it wasn't like falling asleep, but rather like the feeling of blood rushing through my veins really fast...like a vibration feeling and my fingers started to stiffen up and i started to panic a little. i grabbed my phone to call my mom and it was hard for me to even grip my phone and dial the number...my legs were slightly tingling too and i was having trouble pushing on the gas pedal. i just kept shaking my hands out while i was driving and flexing my leg muscles and eventually it calmed down and went away by the time i got home.

my mom is scared that i have MS and then i was talking to the lady i work with about it, and i was telling her what happened and then i told her that my mom mentioned MS and she was like, "well yea, i didn't want to scare you, but i have MS and i had all those symptoms too"

she said that i shouldn't freak out, but that i definitely shouldn't rule it out and that i should have it checked. so i'm gonna have an MRI of my brain done and see what's up.

i wonder what they'll find!

so now women are blaming their bad driving skills on MS? poor bill gates.

We had a guest lecture about heart diseases at Uni this monday. He was a chief surgeon and he said the amount of time and place some heart diseases get in the media is nowhere proportional to the risk of having one of those. Like when your you have a "hidden" heart failure and die on the soccer field. It's not gonna happen to you (these things to go unnoticed is not very likely).

What will happen is that about 50% of the people will die of heart failure of another kind; stroke caused by smoking, bad health, bad food and not enough exercise.

Posted by Slylee on Sep-13-2005 14:31:

yea well i have that weird "cardiac arrhythmia" thing too...like all of a sudden my heart will skip a beat or "flutter" and then beat super fast for like 5 seconds to catch up and i get lightheaded...it's not a panic attack, because it happens when i'm like totally relaxed watching tv or something...and it's more of a physical thing than a mental thing.

it's weird. but i know that's kind of normal...i mean a lot of people have it and it's not a real threat...maybe when i'm old it will be...

all the BS in the media is because of the pharmaceutical companies i'm sure..

Posted by igottaknow on Sep-13-2005 14:35:

maybe you have Carpal Tunnel?

Posted by Allied Nations on Sep-13-2005 14:37:

Posted by BTG on Sep-13-2005 14:45:

if you have sex, you could have aids.

yea well my hands and feet are always freezing too..so obviously i have poor circulation...

i don't have health insurance yet cuz i've only been at my job for a month...so my ex is going to arrange for me to have an MRI done but we're not gonna document it or anything like that...just gonna have a radiologist read it and that's it...that way, when i get insurance, nothing will be considered "pre-existing".

i hope moral doesn't read this...

I'm not positive it's exactly the same thing, but 100% of all the people on this planet have a heart that jumps and skips a beat from time to time. A heart isn't perfect, it's a biological entity and it doesn't work 100% all the time. The Sinus that emits electronic pulses in the upper part of the heart (so the heart beats) can sometimes be interrupted by some other cells who emits a pulse of their own. Things like that makes your heart "skip a beat" or double beat.

Luckily for us the heart has quite a few "backup systems" if things go wrong.

Too late!

i dont have insurance either so i'm cautious about seeing a doctor. health insurance companies are evil and the whole pre-existing clause is scary. doesn't sound like ms, probably early cts in ur arms and something else in ur feet. good luck with it all.

yea my dad told me the same thing in more or less words...it could have to do with subluxations in your back interfering with the nerves going to and from your heart....hahah that's what a chiro would say

Ahh, god bless the NHS.

Hope you get well soon Slylee. I'm sure it'll be nothing more than bad circulation, and the doc will just tell you to eat more healthily and exercise more.

Posted by nchs09 on Sep-13-2005 16:58:

what is ms?

Posted by Slylee on Sep-13-2005 17:08:

multiple sclerosis....it's a disease of the nervous system...most ppl who have it end up in wheel chairs in their 40's or 50's

i have my fingers crossed that it's just circulatory too...gonna get the brain MRI anyway since i have that hookup...i'm curious to see my brain anyway.

i went once and the doctor made me come back cause i had done some drugs. it shows up on MRI's

Posted by Slylee on Sep-13-2005 17:10:

yea i know my ex told me there will likely be some brain damage showing on my MRI cuz of all the drugs i've done.

actually, i'm gonna take a hit of acid 40 minutes before i get it done.

jk

id be funny if the doctor goes "ya well... you should be DEAD now"

Posted by Slylee on Sep-13-2005 17:11:

i'm not! i mean about the stuff showing up...i think it just shows up differently than a normal, non-drug using person's brain.
