What was your fav ALL time chirlderns book when your a kid?

I've got a box-set of Beatrix Potter mini-books that I used to love to look at the colorful pictures and read when I was 2 or 3.
For Christmas when I turned 5, my mom and dad got me the Compton's Encyclop�dia - which turned out to be my favorite set of books growing up. Many fond memories of reading through the various volumes.
Not a single book, but a whole series.....I found a pic:

I used to have a lot of Disney story books. Right after that, I picked up a lot of history books.
So yeah, I had a skewered childhood :P
Hopefully, somebody here can help with the title of a children's book that scared the shit out of me as kid. If I actually learn the title of the book I may actual go buy it because it scared the fuck out of me as a kid.
It was a book about a "monster in a closet" and no it's not the same characters from "Monster's Inc." the animated film.

Thanks for your help guys...It's very possible "Where The Wild Things Are" is the name of the children's book that traumatized me as a little kid. The picture definitely looks familiar and I'm guessing this is the book that scared the crap out of me in junior kindergarten when I was 3 or 4 years old. LOL But, for some reason I remembered it was about a monster and had something to do with a closet??? Anyway, I'll have to visit the bookstore and flip through the book and see if this the correct book that gave me my first nightmares as a child.
Actually, I was a very strange little kid with unusual childhood fears. Honest to God, I remember the headhunters on "Gilligan's Island" used to scare the shit out of me when I was a toddler...LOL
***Just found the actual title of the book that scared me as a child...It was published in 1968 and is called "There's a Nightmare in My Closet" by Mercer Mayer

"Shaun Cassidy" starred in the ABC TV series from 77/78 
I also liked these books by Rudyard Kipling.......everyone knows the Jungle Book - but the Just So Stories - was pretty cool! - it explained how the camel got his hump and leopard his spots, how the alphabet was made etc.....
And these 2 classic stories most of us should know from school.....

Th Sweet Valley kids series and of course All the Rohl Dahl books
I still have all of my kiddie books (I'm a book collector and can't wait for my kids to read the books I did... they're timeless!)
My parents, being very British, raised me on Enid Blyton Books that are still in reprint today, including the Twins at St. Clair, the Secret Seven Series, The Famous Five, the "Mystery" series and the "Adventure" Series (Ship, Island, Valley, Sea), and the Noddy books when I was really small (I had the pleasure of working on the North American version of the Noddy series at Access Post Audio - they basically revoiced the whole cartoon and "Americanized" the language) ... here's a link to a website with almost all of her books currently in print...

I Used to read this book all the time I loved it...so much so that the other weekend my mother and I started talking about it so I pulled out of the closet and we thumbed through it again for ol time sake. I encourage all to take a look through this great book. To read it would take no more than 10 mins but well worth it.
Nothing beats the OLD SKOOL kiddie books we grew up with!
