Desyn Masiello

If there was ever a person on the rise, it would have to be Desyn Masiello. Having kicked off Bedrock's Original Series with a funky approach usually only reserved for clubs while offering a fresh take on dance music to home listeners, people are now beginning to understand what many of the world's greatest DJs have been saying for the past few years.

As label owner, manager and A&R of SexOnWax and Alternative Route, Desyn has helped bring some of the freshest sounds to dance floors around the world. Add to that killer good looks and an ability to get club goers moving, shaking - and swooning - to the beat of a new drum, and there's every reason to think the ANU Float at this years Love Parade in San Francisco may be getting a little more love than most.

So are you ready? You better be as RA locks down Desyn Masiello for a few questions before the Loveparade San Francisco

Which float will the group be playing at?

Ive absolutely no idea. Until this interview, I didnt even know I was playing! Its my own fault I'm so busy with music that where Im playing is normally the last thing I check out!

[Note: Desyn will be playing on the ANU Float presented by Electrocelt with Lee Burridge, Jamie Anderson, John Tejada, Scott Carrelli, Jon Beech, and Sinikus. Then the After-party at Anu)

How excited are you about playing in North America's version of the Love Parade?

Its only just starting to sink in, and Im getting very excited! Love parade is a legendary event and it will be my first one I cant wait!

This years Love Parade in San Francisco has expanded to the entire weekend with pre-parties, post-parties, and weekend parties throughout the city in celebration of the Love Parade and the idea of Dr. Mottes Love, Peace, and Pancakes,. How do you see the Love Parade different, or special compared to other dance events like Glastonbury, Global Gathering, or the Extrema Festival?

The idea of the Love Parade to me is something very different. In the UK every year we have the Notting Hill carnival where everyone dresses up and parties in the streets and there is a parade with floats. That event is not about house and techno music really, but still, it gives a totally different atmosphere and feel than staged one-off events. For me the Love Parade is more about being part of a movement and spreading a message to everyone.

Have youve been to any of the different Love Parades around the world? Is it different? Is the mood the same?

Ive never been. This will be my first ever, now Im really getting excited!

The Love Parade and Woodstock have the same essence, same vibe; two events that bring love and peace; colorful and open-minded people together in one location, with a massive party and some of the most popular entertainers of their time. Do you see any correlations between this and Woodstock?

Without a doubt, its the same spirit that lives on today, the spirit of change, freedom and love and to make the world a better place. Thats what its all about. As regards to the performers though, I think the DJs of today have some way to go until they can reach the status of some of the legends like Hendrix and Joplin that performed at Woodstock!!!

Do you believe dance music, or dance culture is just a fad like what most people in the general music business believe?

Weve been dancing to the beat of the drum since the dawn of man and that same desire to dance and celebrate life is in us today and will always be in us is my belief. Dance music and the dance scene in our society, is our connection today with that spirit inside us and that will never die out.

Do you think the parade will open or has opened the eyes of those that havent paid attention to dance culture? Do you think this event will eventually revitalize the presence of dance music in mainstream culture in America?

It will definitely attract many thousands of new dance music lovers; it's going to be the first time experiencing dance music for some people and what better event to do it at where the ideals and meaning behind the parade is love and peace... I wish it was my first time experiencing dance music there. I think its a great step towards getting more peeps into dance music.

Do you have any time off to explore and enjoy San Francisco during the weekend or will the parties and the parade itself consume your life? Whats your opinion about San Francisco in general?

I love San Fran. Ive been there many times and have a few really close friends there. Theres a special vibe to the city that I love and loads of hotties too! (u know that lads!) ;-) Ive actually ended up at The End Up one time after a few days partying and got refused drinks! I was quite proud of that! I basically love San Fran.

Finally, can you give RA a heads-up on anything to keep an ear out for, or anything else on the horizon for you in 2005?

I've just finished a new mix album for the Balance guys in Australia. Its a 2xCD; disc 1 is deep trippy electro and melodic house and disc 2 is a bit more clubby. It'll be out November 15th worldwide on EQ.
